Mutation: it is the key to our evolution. It has enabled us to evolve from a single-celled organism into the dominant species on the planet. This process is slow, and normally taking thousands and thousands of years. But every few hundred millennia, evolution leaps forward. – Professor Charles Xavier

Empire City is a room dedicated to letting players play in the world of Marvel with both canons and original characters. Canons are those characters that are ‘on loan’ from Marvel – such as Cyclops, Spider-man, or the Human Torch – for players to play themselves. Originals are characters that the player makes up from scratch, and applies to the Marvel setting. Empire City focuses solely on the New York City aspect of Marvel, with Empire City just being another nickname for the Big Apple.

While EC focuses more on plots from the comic, it also implements various bits from the Marvel movies. Players have a choice on which version of their beloved C they want to play – movie or comic – as well as adding minor twists to the character. We ask you, however, to keep the true spirit of the character when doing this. Doctor Doom is not going to suddenly turn heroic, and Cyclops probably isn’t going to join the Avengers. EC is not a What If? Marvel room.

Empire City also focuses more on the human vs. mutant aspect of Marvel, making the setting a very hostile environment for mutants. Mutants and superhumans using their powers in public will most likely have repercussions from mutant-hating groups such as Friends of Humanity (FOH). Even most super-heroes such as Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four are viewed through anti-mutant eyes, their good deeds often overlooked just because they are ‘different’. The only exception to this would be members of S.H.I.E.L.D, a mutant anti-terrorist group employed by the government. Secret identities are key to a super-hero’s survival.
