Dead but not Gone
Chapter One
Justyn worked Wednesday and Thursday without getting a chance to speak to the boy. On Friday, when he finally got a chance to be alone on the job site at lunch time, the boy was nowhere to be found. Justyn thought long and hard during his lunch time to see if he could figure the reason he could see these people and why only one of them could see him. WHen the boss and other workers returned from lunch, Justyn still was no closer to an answer then he was before. The following week proved to be a waste of time as far as getting to talk to the boy. Justyn searched for him every chance he could, but the boy was nowhere around the camp. The following week started this same way, but on Thursday the boy returned just before lunch time. Justyn was shocked to see him being carried into the camp by two men. The boy looked almost lifeless as they carried him to a large structure that was located just behind the present time shop building. The two men spoke to the women that came out to greet them and Justyn was close enough to them to understand that the boy had been lost for several days and was found a good distance away, laying in a small stream, with several animal scratches on his back and arms. The women summond another women and they went inside the structure, Justyn guessed to look after the boy and to doctor his wounds. Several other women of the camp soon showed up and also went inside. Justyn could hear them speaking but was unable to hear clearly enough to understand what they were saying. Just before quitting time when Justyn and the other workers putting there tools in the shop building, Justyn heard one of the women as she came out of the structure, she was speaking with one of the men that had carried the boy back to camp. She was telling him that the boy was delerious and kept saying over and over for them to get his spirit friend, as he would be able to help make him better. Justyn played around a while longer then usual and told the others to go ahead, since he had driven his car, that he had to go to the bathroom and then would be on his way also. As soon as the others were gone out of sight on the main road, Justyn attempted to walk through the structure where the boy was. Once inside Justyn seen the boy laying on some animal skins on the floor. He knelt next to the boy and gently spoke to him. Asking him what he could do to help him. The boy spoke to Justyn with a weak voice and told him he was very sick with a fever and that if Justyn could just use his spirit magic on him he would be okay. Justyn was more then happy to help the young boy, but wondered if he did, how it would effect the lives of either the boy's people or his own people. The boy pleaded with Justyn to just use some magic, like powder that some spirits had used before on some of his ancestors. This gave Justyn and idea. He had some Advil in his car and since Justyn could not swallow pills, he kept them crushed into a fine powder for taking easily. He quickly rose and went to his car, found the Advil in his lunch box, and took the powder, enclosed in a small paper similiar to a BC powder, out and proceeded back to the young boy. He asked the boy if he had eaten anything today, and the boy told him yes, some of the mashed meat that was close by. Justyn told the boy to tak some of the meat and hold it in his hand and to sprinkle this powder on it, offering th Advil to the boy. After he sprinkled the powder on the meat, the boy ate it quickly, before any of the women in the structure could see him doing it. Justyn stuck around for about an hour and by then the boy was doing considerably better, his fever was down and he was actaully able to speak with out having to fight to find the words. Justyn went back to his car and took out two more powdered Advil packs, each one contained two Advils, and took it back to the boy, he told the boy that he needed to repeat the magic once at bedtime and once again when he woke in the morning. He asked the boy if he had something to put two seperate amounts of the magic podwer in. The boy reached over and held up a couple of small pouchess made from some sort of animal hide or something, Justyn told the boy to dump the powder from each of his pouches into them. The boy took hold of Justyn's hand and slowly dumped the powder into the two pouches of his own. He then tucked them away under his bedding skins and thanked Justyn repeatedly.
