Born: Nancy Sandra Sinatra
In the mid 1960s Nancy blew the lid off the music box
image of a girl crying over her diary for a boy who
wouldn't behave, revealing a woman who let her men know
in no uncertain terms just how things were going to
be. Songs like "So Long Babe" and "How Does That Grab
You, Darlin'?" helped Nancy change forever the image
of women in rock. "These Boots Are Made For Walkin'"
kicked open the doors for a whole new breed of musical
women. With her pre-women's liberation tough girl attitude,
the first rebel chick singer and a female evolution/revolution
were born. Armed with memorable album covers and soft,
sweet, sexy and in charge pictures in magazines, she
hit the charts 21 times, becoming a role model for young,
independent females as well as an icon of pop culture
- Rock and Roll would never be the same.

Nancy was a staple of television variety shows with her many appearances on the The Ed Sullivan Show, The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour, The Glen Campbell Show, the Bobby Darin Show, Johnny Carson, Laugh-In, The Perry Como Show, The Kraft Music Hall, Hollywood Palace and too many others to mention here. During the Vietnam War she was a favorite pin-up girl for the GIs on the battlefields and ships. Her sweet and sexy image became the ideal, the girl to come home to. In the liner notes of Nancy's "Sugar" album, Lee Hazlewood tried to explain the dichotomy of the woman-child figure that seemed to capture so many hearts. He called her"a girl and a woman who is quiet and noisy, square yet hip".
She will joke about her film career but the fact remains she did seven movies, two of which, "Speedway" with Elvis and "The Wild Angels" with Peter Fonda, made her the top female box-office draw two years in a row.
There were other milestones along the way: record breaking appearances in Las Vegas, Juke Box Awards, Grammy nominations and an Emmy winning television special, produced by Nancy, called "Movin' With Nancy." This collection of videos, ten years before there were music videos, has been aired on American Movie Classics and was released on VHS and DVD. The sequels, "Movin' With Nancy On Stage" and "Movin' With Nancy Nice 'n' Easy" will follow.
She has written two books about her legendary father with the hope of setting the record straight about his life, raised two daughters, is very politically active and supports American veterans who are dear to her since her USO tour of Vietnam during the war.
Nancy has achieved a 30-plus year legacy in rock and
roll and created the platform for contemporary rebel-chicks
such as Alanis Morrisette, Sheryl Crow, Chrissie Hynde
and Deborah Harry.
Nancy's connection with Elvis began when he stepped off the plane from Germany on March 3, 1960. She was there at McGuire Air Force Base as the official greeter. They both appeared on the Frank Sinatra TV special, "Welcome Home, Elvis" on May 12th. Eight years later they made Speedway together, and Nancy (as IRS agent Susan Jacks) sang "Your Groovy Self", as well as the duet with Elvis, "There Ain't Nothin' Like a Song". These songs both appeared on the soundtrack album, making Nancy the only artist to make a guest-appearance on an Elvis album during his lifetime.
During the filming of Speedway, Elvis and Priscilla learned that Priscilla was pregnant with Lisa Marie. Nancy gave Priscilla her baby shower.
Nationally syndicated columnist Liz Smith wrote recently, "Nancy Sinatra is so very much more than Daddy's girl.
Rolling Stone Magazine senior editor, David Wild, describes Nancy as simply "groundbreaking, heartbreaking and eternally cool."
