| Latest military planes are becoming faster and more manoeuvrable but the greatest achievement is the ability for plane to vertically take-off and land. The Harrier is not the fastest plane but it is amazingly agile. The harrier can hover in mid air, take-off straight upward and land straight downward. The aircraft can fly sideways and backwards enabling it land on any flat area. |

| Manoeuvring: |
| The rudder and fin controls only work effectively when flying forwards at speed. To control the aircraft when it hovers the angles of the nozzles are adjusted change the direction of the plane. |

| Take-Off: |
| The Harriers jet nozzles are located on the sides of the fuselage, under the wings. Angled plates control the direction of the jet exhausts. During take-off the jet nozzles are angled downward pushing the plane up. They are then angled back to push the plane forwards and up. When the plane is high enough and has enough speed the nozzles are angled horizontally creating forward movement. |
