:: DUEL OF FATES RPG ::
DBZ UNIVERSE
Here you'll find details of the universe which the Duel of Fates RPG takes place in. Bulma's articles in this section include:
The Planet Trade and Ice-jin Empire
Kreios System and The Torikaemas-jin
The Daemon
The Heartless
What is the Northern Quadrant?
The Universe itself is cut into four separate quadrants: North, South, East and West. In the RPG the events of DBZ take place in the Northern Quadrant, a massive galaxy which is overseen by King Kai (Kaoi-sama) from a small planetoid in the other dimension. King Kai's planetoid situated at the end of Snake Way.
The Kais have been around for millions of years. Although they do not share the strength of the Higher Gods, they are wise in the ways of martial arts and have trained some of the greatest legendary heroes.
The events of Star Wars take place in the Eastern Quadrant. The beginning of our RPG story starts with Frieza and the Planet Trade business. The descriptions of the DBZ universe are taken from the files of Bulma Briefs.
Northern Quadrant: Notes from the Files of Professor Bulma Briefs
From Planet Trade to Empire
An Ice-jin fairytale
The Empire began with the High Family of Icion. Situated at the core of the Northern quadrant, the Ice-jinn homeworld acquired its vast fortune from its strategic location in the galaxy, open to any number of trade routes and prized for its cattle and fine wine, made from the grapes which flourished on the ashen slopes of the planets volcanic ranges.
Kold is the High Father of the aristocratic family and rules over Icion as King: his two firstborns, Cooler and Frieza are his most trusted confidents, but over time Frieza proved to be a favourite of the King and Court.
Frieza quickly proved ruthless and impetuous in the business world. A combination of brilliance and malevolent cunning, the son of Kold quickly decided to expand upon his fathers business. He enlisted the help of the Ice-jinns closest allies, the Arconians famed for their innovation in the field of weapons technology and space travel and set about a new enterprising business venture: the Planet Exchange.
As fate would have it, the battle-hardened race of Saiyans on the far flung mid-rim of the galaxy were ready to make their place in society, having recently triumphed in a civil war with their neighbouring race the Tuffles. Planet Vegeta-sei had little to offer in terms of valuable resources, instead offered their muscle power in service to the Arconians who would in turn grant them access to their technology. Working together, and both in the payroll of the Icion High Family, the Arconians transformed the Saiyan race into a devastating army, seeking out small and mostly uninhabited planets for Friezas Planet Exchange clients.
But affiliation with the Ice-jinn came at a dreadful price and would inevitably come to haunt the Saiyan race forever. With a fully functional army at his bidding and a figure of power beyond imagination, Frieza brought the High Family to the peak of prosperity and achievement. And yet it appears he wanted more.
Enamoured with his own power and desperately seeking ways to further strengthen himself, Frieza funded an investigation into the mythology of their Galaxy. His discovery of the Namekian prophecy to the last Monkey King* (Super Saiyan) hinted that a new Monkey King would lead a Rebellion against an Empire. The discovery proved lethal for Vegeta-sei. Frieza had already felt that the Saiyans were growing in strength and daring, and that only a very public show of his might would succeed in bringing the hardy race into submission.
As trust began to wane, the relationship between the two races deteriorated, especially as the High Family had begun to recruit stronger warriors to do their dirty work. The Planet Exchange industry quite suddenly developed into a search and conquer operation, with Frieza's lackeys taking and destroying what they found.
Having had the gift of clairvoyance previously bestowed upon him, a lowly Saiyan Warrior named Bardock informed the High King Vegeta of Friezas impending deceit. King Vegeta was already outraged with Frieza for taking his son, the Prince, as insurance. The Saiyans rallied against the High Family, assassinating many, including Kolds First wife. Enraged, Frieza killed King Vegeta and destroyed the Saiyan homeworld. Bardock had given people enough warning and half the population was saved - Bardock however was amongst the dead. What survivors there were fled to the outer rim, the beginnings of what was to become the Secret Police, hot on their trail.
Adopting a benevolent persona, Frieza publicly announced his sorrow at the loss of such a noble race, to what appeared to have been a horrific meteor shower. Still, many worlds revolted and within a year of the Ice-jinns totalitarian governing, the newly risen Empire had commenced what later came to be known as the First Galactic Sweep. This grievous act saw the devastation of civilisation and freedom throughout the Northern galaxy; planets and federations, even those once in league with the criminal Planet Exchange corporation, crumbled to their knees before the new Empire.
Many worlds disappeared from the charts altogether: Yardrat, Arlia, and Vegeta-sei amongst them. Rebellions rose and fell and worlds were quickly, efficiently, herded into submission through a range of measures, including restriction of basic rights and freedoms, but most prominently through widespread use of terror tactics. The use of secret police, like that of the Ginyu Force; a notorious gang of pirates working privately under Lord Frieza, proved similarly successful. Eventually Frieza's Empire was split into Eight sectors and King Kold chose seven Sages to govern a sector of their own, while the eighth - ultimately the largest, encompassing Planet Icion too - was ruled by Frieza.
For many years what remained of the Saiyan race travelled the stars as nomads until our Capsule Corporation's Scientific Industries joined the fight against the Empire and aided the Saiyans in their quest for a new homeworld.
Frieza's quest for the ultimate power, however, did not end at the devastation of Vegeta-sei or the rise of the Ice-jin Empire. With Captain Ginyus special elite squad traversing the galaxy in search of suitable planets to conquer, Kold's Sages overseeing the run of each sector and the rest of the army keeping the Empire under control, there was no one to challenge Friezas authority, though many tried.
But it seems Frieza grew increasingly paranoid at this time and turned once again to his researchers, demanding they find a way of making him immortal. His desire was eventually granted when his researchers returned to the mysterious Nameks. Thus far only the occasional Super Namek had turned up in a local tavern or Inn, rambling and half-delirious. The planet Namek was the stuff of fairytales. But via an incident on Chikyuu, the location of Namek was uncovered alongside rumours of Namekian Dragonballs; seven golden spheres which, when brought together, granted the seeker a wish.
Their world torn asunder, the Namekian race was soon added to the number of slaves accumulated by the Ice-jinn Empire and Frieza acquired his long sought after immortality.
Years passed, the Empire grew and the galaxy suffered horrendously under the High Familys oppressive rule. Prophecies of Chosen Ones were long forgotten. The sons of Bardock and King Vegeta lead our flourishing Rebellion which has so long kept to the shadows. Now many of our spies infiltrate the seemingly impenetrable Empire. It is only a matter of time before we find Frieza's weakness.
Kreios System and The Torikaemas-jin
The following notes and information have been compiled in the short amount of time spent visiting the Torikaemas-jin home-world. These have been supplemented by the numerous folktales and superstitions surrounding their existence which have been handed down through generations of other space faring races. The Torikaemas-jin do little to dissuade these rumours making it difficult to discern what is fact and what is fiction, increasing their already high danger factor.
The Torikaemas-jin are better (and more commonly) known as the Shape-Shifters. Despite the misleading title, they are not the only race in the universe with the ability to change form. What sets them apart is the ability to be able to choose the form they will become. A well trained Torikaemas-jin only has to think of a form to assume it, unlike a Tsiru-jin who has a limited number of forms that rely on attaining the correct chi level.
Though born with the ability to shape-shift, mothers must begin their infants training immediately or run the risk of losing her child to the first form they assume. This is usually as a creature of the wild or, in some more extreme cases, the organic furniture in their home. As the children grow older the training becomes more rigorous and allows them to not only look and feel like the form they become but to actually be that particular thing.
This potent ability to hone their techniques has set the Torikaemas-jin apart from races that change their shape as many of these others have long been sold into slavery, in many cases as high class prostitutes. One would think that being able to literally become someone of another race that the Torikaemas-jin would be in high demand. They are but resolutely refuse all offers, though over the years there have been rumours of half-breeds.
Since their power is not linked to their chi they are very dangerous as one cannot tell when they are going to change or what object may be a shape-shifter in disguise. Reports have been made of vases that have eaten their owners whole.
A Torikaemas-jin usually displays a friendly nature but this only extends as far as they are able to tolerate you. Their tolerance wears thin quickly if they are faced with incompetence or sheer disregard. They are a race who like to be noticed but at the same time try their damnest not to be.
Physically, their natural form is one of a standard humanoid. It is unknown whether or not this has always been the case, or whether the constant use of the humanoid form lead to a permanent change. Appearance wise they are nothing special; their hair colour varies like any other race and their skin is a pale cream to a dark tan. Interestingly this skin colouring changes with sudden switches in emotion and is much like watching a living mood ring.
Krieos
The Torikaemas-jin home-world lies in the system of Krieos. It is a distant system but lies close to the major shipping routes. It is seldom visited and offers no incentive for people to do so.
Krieos consists of simple elements. It has a single sun which is orbited by a mere six planets. Of these only two are inhabitable, the rest being either gas giants or overbearingly hot, with rivers of molten rock not uncommon to the surface. The two remaining planets carry most distinct forms of life.
The larger is home to a form of sentient plant. Even less of is known of these than the Torikaemas-jin as the way in which they communicate with each other, let alone any outside species has yet to be determined. As attempts have shown, these plants cannot be taken from their planet as all have died once in space. It is speculated that they have some sort of psychic link with the planet itself as scanning of the atmosphere reveals no underlying differences to regular Class Three planets.
Roshou
The Torikaemas-jins home-world is known to them as Roshou which, in their dying language, means place of being. It is a fairly unremarkable world, seventy percent oceans and the remaining landmass ranging from deserts to patches of lush rainforest. The majority of the landscape is bland and often bleak, with harsh winds blowing across the surface. The Torikaemas-jin live in sparse communities across the two landmasses, the majority living in towns hewn into the sides of large rock crevasses, some of which span the landmasses.
The ruling body of the Torikaemas-jin, the Head Family, live in the largest town, located in a crevasse known as Linge, in an area much like steppes or the highlands on Chikyuu-sei.
The wildlife of Roshou is varied and are mostly the evolutionary equivalents to beings on other Class Three worlds. Surprisingly, they have tamed but one of them, known as the tuft-cat, a creature that varies in size between a kitten and a medium sized dog.
The Head Family
The current head of the Head Family is a woman who goes by the name of Ginbokou Shanzet. She is advised by the Council of Elders, all of whom are in someway distantly related to her. As of the writing of this document, her closest living relative, her sister Ginbokou Reffinest, has been missing for several years.
As the Head Family the Ginbokous are the only ones to have completely mastered the intense training all Torikaemas-jin must go through. It is only the direct members of this family that can completely become one of another species. As such their greatest concern at the present time is that Reffinest left Roshou without completing her training, or her duty to the family.
Community
The structure of the Torikaemas-jin society is matriarchal. Leadership is always handed down through the women. However, the Council of Elders can consist only of men and they have great sway over their leader. As such, traditions are heeded to very closely; one of these being the rigorous training and ceremony all Torikaemas-jin must go through to be considered a proper member of their respective families.
Most live in small family groups, not unlike those found on Chikyuu-sei but with each family entrusted to a single purpose within the community. For instance, it is unheard of for a family of hunters to offer their home as lodgings to travellers. Not only does this bring shame on their own house but also directs insult at the family designated for that position.
Trends in fashion, such as hair cuts do not affect them as they can be changed at a moments thought; though it is considered the height of bad manners to change whilst in anothers household. It should be the held that the height of bad manners is to change in anothers presence, as the sight can be thoroughly creepy to behold. It takes little effort to maintain ones appearance when the basic physical form has not changed and as such many Torikaemas-jin never appear in their true form from the day they first change their looks to the day they die.
Religion
There is no known religion held on Roshou. This is understandable. Due to their ability the Torikaemas-jin become sceptical from a very young age. Every story becomes explained away by the excuse that someone, as the kind woman who ran their guest lodgings put it, was playing silly buggers and that the entire ordeal was done for a laugh at someone elses expense; a pastime that all Torikaemas-jin seem to enjoy.
Recent History
During the Frieza Wars the Torikaemas-jin refused service. When attacked the planet appeared deserted. Every inhabitant had vanished without a trace. In the hope that the reports that they had deserted their home-world were untrue and that they were merely in hiding as part of the landscape, Frieza refrained from destroying the planet. Gradually the Torikaemas-jin reappeared and continued on as if they had never been threatened in the first place. Frieza still holds hope that he can persuade them to his cause. If they ever did, his armies would be unstoppable.
Miscellaneous
An interesting anecdote to the rule that Torikaemas-jin never appear in their birth form is that Ginbokou Reffinest is a rare exception. She steadfastly remains in her birth form changing only when it suits her and always returning to her true form afterwards.
Several years ago, when I made my first trip to Roshou, she struck me as a very emotionally volatile creature. Though she appeared as any regular Torikaemas-jin on the surface, the way she spoke and acted spoke of an increasing frustration with her own people and the rules she was forced to live by. When mentioned to her sister, Shanzet replied that it was the rebellious fledgling age that everyone went through. Three years later Reffinest stowed away onboard a merchant freighter and has not been seen since.

Amendment:
As of this writing the situation between the Torikaemas-jin and Frieza has not changed. However, the whereabouts of Ginbokou Reffinest have been confirmed. The young Torikaemas-jin has been confirmed as being in the services of King Kold of Tsiru-sei. Trained as one of his feared Sages, the girl has been seen alongside such high powered individuals as, Vanity of Gaia and Shura, the Dante of the Heartless.
Shanzet is yet to make a comment but general feeling from the Torikaemas-jin is one of severe disappointment in such an act by one of the Head Family.
As yet Reffinests motives for this drastic move are unclear and we must wait to see how this situation plays out.

Information about the Core Planet 'Terra Deima' -
While the word and its meanings have been used in every single language known in the galaxy - and more so some unknown - the actual race of these creatures seems to fit all of the descriptions ever noted. Up until recently, no one has ever managed to make the harsh journey to the Deimos System's core planet. Landing upon the planet, one would note one of four climates.
One explorer notes - regarding the East quadrant:
"Upon landing upon the planets surface, I found myself in what appeared to be a rainforest of some description. Although I did not immediately see any signs of life, I was unable to shake off the feeling of being watched. It was like the very trees themselves had eyes - which I brushed off as impossible. Further on, the Jungle seemed to open into a clearing surrounded of either side by wide cliffs. I found myself stood overlooking the clearing, which contained a beautiful glittering pool with a waterfall dropping over the other side of the indent.
"As I watched the pool, I became aware of there being some kind of life inside it, and of course got out my notebook and binoculars to see what life this strange planet held. There were three figures, and I realised them at once to be humanoid in stature. At first, I assumed that they were travellers like I, who had stopped by for a drink. One was tall and stood at the side of the lake/pool, and seemed to be observing the two in the water. He would have been, by normal measurements, at least six and a half feet tall, perhaps taller, and a long series of sand coloured robes fluttered about his form. It appeared he had folded his arms, and long hair flowed about him; this too was sandy in colour and came down to just above his ankles.
"The two forms in the water appeared as two naked human creatures to me, and I assumed they were so, until I observed the rapid speed and ease that they swam about in the water with. They were identical, as if twins, and they seemed to not be taking their swim seriously; which must have been an offence to the tall one on the bank, for he shouted quite harshly at them in a strange language. Their play came to an end, and at a simple barked command from the tall one, they would peform increidible acrobatic movements in the water, and their form became more suited to this as they did so. They were aquatic deamons! Surely I had stumbled into training of some sort!
"I continued to watch until the tall one cast his gaze upwards and regarded me with those scorching eyes, and I felt the need to flee further into the forest..."
Aside from the Jungle Terrain of the East Quadrant, there is the Desert terrain of the South, the mountainous West, and the Glacier Peaks of the North. Several Oceans seal off sections in each quater, just like a normal planet, although it is unclear as to whether the deamon people call them by different names like a planet normally would.
-----------------------------------------------
Deamonology -
Due to the nature of these creatures, the actual description of the race cannot be classified accurately. They cannot be classed as humanoid, for some are thus, yet some are purely animal. Nor can they be classed as having one blood type, for some have no blood at all, and some are purely rock.
To be deamon is to be different.
They share the same space, but like a species class upon a planet they are all different. Some form clans of alike deamons that can be classed as a species (E.g. The Naga of the Desert, The Mermaids in the oceans, The Golems in the Mountains, The Half animal deamons of the Jungle, etc.) but they are still deamon. Perhaps deamon is not their species. Perhaps it is merely their title.
What can be established, however, is the Heirachy of this planet.
The deamon ladder of importance goes as follows:
Gods - Gods in deamon forms. There are many deamon Gods, yet none seem to control the way the planet moves. They are the highest form of deamon, yet prefer to stay out of the mortal struggles.
The Council - Thirteen deamons that show above average power, and above average skill. They rule over the entire world from a Citadel in a barren wasteland of unknown place. It seems only the deamons can find this citadel. A force to be reckoned with. It is rumoured that there has only been one position on the council that has changed since it was established...
Demi-Gods - Deamons of high ability, yet not yet able to be classed as a council member.
Sons - Five deamons who control an elemental property. They seem to have a strong connection to the 'human' Galaxy, although why is unknown. They seem to all have a title too.
Water - Son of Love & Son of Hope
Fire - Son of Blood
Earth - Son of Life
Air - Son of Mind
Shinigami - Not so much the Gods of Death, but rather the deamon world has an underworld much like the Greek Mythologies underworld. The deamons who reside there are brutal and rutheless in nature.
Sins and Incarnations - Much like the Seven Deadly Sins, the throws of Time, Fate and Destiny, there exists a deamon upon this planet that represents each and every incarnation.
-------------------------------------------------------
Social Structure and Landmarks -
In foul parody of a normal society, deamons have a society that runs without any technology at all. It is run by magic. They have towns, cities, tombs, training grounds, and names for countries like a normal society; yet it runs much like a medieval society with a market place, a black market, etc.
One important structure to be noted upon is the one place in the entire world that seems to be a main city. In the middle of a barren wasteland, a tall, square series of walls protect a huge city. In the middle of the city - more like a country in size - a tall jagged tower seems to peirce the very heavens. Inside this tower, the Council see all and know all. Around the tower there are living quarters, markets, a colluseum, etc.
Deamons also seem to have a form of currency. They trade in gold, silver and bronze coinage, and yet are happy to sell and trade coloured gemstones of a magic property. They go in order of rarity:
Black Life and Death Magic
Purple Chaotic/Poison Magic
Red Fire Magic
Green Air Magic
Blue Water Magic
Dark Green Earth Magic
Ice Blue Ice Magic
Other Colours Normal Magic

The Darker Side -
Despite being normally Good in nature, some deamons have chosen to walk a dark path of knowing their superiority over smaller and weaker races. These deamons wage a constant war against the Council of Thirteen and their people. Led by The Bringer of Chaos - Trentarus, these deamon's have warred since the human galaxy was created. (This would bring to mind a question regarding the deamon's life span, which, unless killed in war or by wounds, seems to be immortality at it's peak - perhaps the rumour that a deamon's blood grants eternal life comes from this)
---------------------------------------------
Allies -
Although private in nature, whenever there is a shift in the balance of their world, the council may see it fit to send out deamons to ally with other galaxies - to prevent their world from being over taken. They are naturally spiritual creatures, and can sense when and where a great disaster is occuring...
((AN: Now you know why Ted is here...they just didn't tell him that.))
The Heartless
Heartless.
That's what they're called, though they have their own names for themselves. Living shadow, a race so intertwined with the night that some believe there is nothing more to them than that. Though many claim little is known about them, I have managed to file a somewhat thurough report on their natures.
Heartless are not, by nature, evil. They are instead all that is dark in the galexy. The first Heartless appeared around 14 BD (Before the Dragonballs) Their anatomy has not been studied in depth, though they appear to be a race which can turn into a shadowy substance at will. Because of this, one could argue that they are, indeed, shadows, taking on huminoid forms only when it suits them. The only speck of color on an otherwise black Heartless is it's eyes, which are colored according to the level of power that particular Heartless can attain. Each Heartless belongs to a sect, according to the shade of it's eyes.
Yellow- lowest. The Gangi Sect.
Green-low. The Shangi Sect.
Blue- moderate. The Kangi Sect.
Orange-strong. The Frangi Sect.
Red & Purple-most powerful. The Nangi Sect.
While there are exceptions, such as when two Heartless of different Sects mate, these are the general levels of power. There is some debate as to which of the main sect is stronger- those with red eyes, or those with purple. However, as no duel between the two has ever been recorded, Scientists can only guess.
The Heartless have a monarchy, ruled by a Dante. The title is the same no matter who holds it, because, contrary to popular belief, Heartless are asexual- totally featurless until the mating time, wherein they can change to either male or female, depending on their will. It has been recorded that two male Heartless and two Female Heartless can produce a child, however how this comes about has not been recorded.
The current Dante of the Heartless is Shura Samiel Karantan Ninth Gate.
Perhaps the most interesting feature of the Heartless is what they have done to contribute to the conflict known as the Clone Wars. According to old Texts translated by Professor Aricht Vansec of planet Markas, years before the Heartless were a race of power men wearing brown robes and carrying swords of light appeared on their planet, smelling of hatred and anger. The texts go on to say that the men were treated as Gods for a time, and interbred with the Heartless to produce offspring with Red skin and yellow eyes. Given the evidence in these scrolls, it is safe to bet that interbreeding with the Heartless was what brought about the very first Lords in the practice of the dark side of the force, an enemy camp to the Jedi- the Sith.
The power the Heartless use- what Jedi and various cromers call the dark side of the force- is called by the Heartless themselves the 'Art of Shadow and Nothing.' The power manipulates shadow, darkness, and absence of life, giving it close ties to the Bohem's art of necromancy. Because Shadow Ri is, in essance, darkness and/or nothing, there are very few magics which can combat it, which makes the rest of the Universe very lucky, because the Heartless rarely move from the Morpheus system.
Some of the powers often attributed to Shadow Ri are the creation of constructs, living shadow creatures; the teleportation of people or objects through an alternate dimension through which shadows are the door; twisting the minds of men and in some cases driving them insane; and weild the magic itself as a weapon to banish foes to another dimension, or to physically harm them. The strongest of Shadow-Ri practicioners can enter the minds of beings and make their will their own. Other smaller powers attributed to Shadow Ri are those of the force, the movement of objects, freezing of movement, and the like.
There are very few shadow Ri practicioners in the galexy besides the Heartless themselves, though Sith Lords have been able to harness a small amount of the dark power for their use. Only one other being in the Universe can weild the power, and his name is Caithion Gramaka Triste, Witch King and General of the Black Wing of the Royal Saiyajin armies, reaching eighty three years of age at the time I make this report. While his power is not known for sure, Caithion is often remembered for his bright purple eyes- an unusual trait for a Saiyajin, given to him in the Chamber of Awakening used by the Triste Family.
