According to Margaret's son Ludwig A. Heger, when Anna and Margaret arrived in New York City, they stayed at the Leo House, a catholic YWCA-type place which gave recent immigrants a place to stay, ensured they would avoid prostitution, and helped them find jobs. Margaret was hired as a nanny by a jewish family in New York named Schroeder. ``They wanted a catholic girl so that any stealing would have to be confessed'' and they liked Margaret. From what her daughter Edith says, I think Anna got a similar job working for a rich family. After their parents arrived in the US about a year later, they all moved to St. James, Minnesota where other family members had settled earlier.
Margaret was a devout member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic church of Madelia.
She was always known as ``Aunt Maggie'' by the Buschow children, at least.
