Obituary Mrs. L. K. Heger Margaret MAdeline Heger, brief mention of whose death on January 2nd, was made in these columns last week, was born at Bernetzreith, Austria, on February 5, 1881, the daughter of Joseph and Agnes Blaha. When a young woman she came to America and, after a short stay in New York, came west and located at St. James, Minnesota. On July 7, 1908, Margaret Blaha was married at St. James to Ludwig Heger of that city, and to their union were born three sons and one daughter. The sons are: Joseph of LaSalle; John, of St. James, and Ludwig, in the U.S. navy. The daughter, Mrs. P.B. Nicklaus (Agnes) died at her home at Parkerberg, Ia., last spring. Besides her three sons, Mrs. Heger is survived by two brothers, John Blaha of Madelia and Andrew Blaha of Pomona, Calif.; and by one sister, Mrs. Anna Buschow, of Waseca, Minn. Mrs. Heger was a devout member of Mater Dolorosa Catholic church of Madelia. She was also a member of St. Mary's Society. She was possessed of a cheerful disposition and a kind and sympathetic nature which endeared her to every acquaintance. Funeral services, which had been set for Monday, January 8, were postponed until 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 9, when a message was received from her son, Ludwig, stating that he was on his way home from Hawaii and could not reach Madelia until early Tuesday morning. Father Allen McShane celebrated requiem high mass after which the remains were laid to rest in Calvary cemetery. Casket bearers were: Joseph Marturano, P.H. Hodapp, L.E. Sullvan, Henry Kunz, Jacob Kunz and Clarence Cohorst. Relatives and other friends, from a distance, who attended the funeral are: Ludwig Hager, from Hawaii; P.B. Nicklaus, Parkersberg, Ia.; Mrs. Anna Buschow Waseca; Mrs. Delmer Peach, Waterville; Mrs. Frank Lunz, Mrs. Henry Lunz, Mrs. Martin Kohn, Mrs. John Blaha, Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Larsen and Mr. and Mrs. John Flalau all of St. James; Mrs. Chas. Giese, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bathke and Mr. and Mrs. Wm. J. Schmidt, all of Wells, and Hilda and Bess Schmidt, of Searles, Minn. -------------------- From a copy of a newspaper clipping send to D. Nicklaus by Edith Luther in 1995. Edith underlined the names Mrs. Chas. Giese, Mr. and Mrs. Edgar Bathke, and Mrs. and Mrs. Wm. J. Schmidt and noted that these were her half sisters and their husbands. The birth year of 1881 which they printed conflicts with all the other sources I have which indicate 1882. But then they misspelled Hager and Parkersburg two different ways.
