What is Lent? Lent is forty-days before Easter, (don't count Sunday's ) The faithful rededicate themselves and converts (see RCIA/RCIC) are instructed in the faith and prepared for Baptism. (see Sacraments). Christians imitate Jesus withdrawal into the desert for 40 days to discern, contemplation, penantence, and reflection. Christians observe fasting, and not eating meat on Friday's during this time. Fasting is a spiritual discipline that teaches your bodily appetite to be your servant and not your master. Children learn Lent as a time to give something they like up for Jesus. Christians do not observe these traditions on weekends, because the Ressurection is on Sunday. |
