Access
to appropriate technology is essential for students attending
a virtual school. Without having access to the needed technology
there would be no participation at a virtual school. “In-house
technical resources and the adaptability of development tool and
delivery platforms to local conditions are important considerations.

of
equitable access to technology for K-12 learners” (Clark).
Participating in a virtual classroom would be difficult for children
lacking technical skills, or kids who are not interested or have
trouble using the required technological software. A majority
of virtual schools appear to be using web- or Internet-based instruction
as their distance learning method, therefore, low income students
who have less home access to the Internet, or students who have
to share a computer with their family would be in a disadvantage.
“These inequities in technology access have serious implications
for those seeking to provide equal access to virtual school opportunities”
(Clark).
