History

Baltimore is one of Delta Gamma's earliest alumnae groups.  It was officially founded in 1901, just behind Lincoln, Nebraska and New York City, New York.  Baltimore celebrated 100 years as a chapter at our Founder's Day 2001 celebration!

The official decision to become a chapter came after a great deal of discussion at a December 1914 meeting.  Association President, Mabel Carter, told in a letter how she had "been holding the girls back since September to make quite sure the sentiment is unanimous."  With "great rejoicing" members signed the petition on January 9, 1915.  Charter members included one member of Sigma - Northwestern, one from Alpha Beta - Swwarthmore College, and twelve from Psi - Goucher.  Joe Anna Ross Pancoast, one of the charter members, was Anchora Editor/Council member from 1897-1905 and Memorial Fellowship Honoree in 1970.

On October 31, 1915, sixty-five college women representing eight national Greek letter fraternites formed the Baltimore Panhellenic Association.  The first President was Mrs. Omar B. Pancoast, a Psi - Goucher Delta Gamma.

The fraternity Archives at Executive Offices in Columbus, Ohio houses the original minute books of the Baltimore Association and Alumnae Chapter.
