 Does the Children's Fire still burn? 

Our program, Network in the Schools (NIS), helps society to guard the Children's Fire by helping children build their self-concept, helping them focus on their aspirations and dreams, and building a community of their peers. This is done within a school or after-school program in collaboration with existing programs and teaching methods.

The direct program benefits are:

  • Improved student self-esteem.
  • Students build a community, a safe place to be themselves.
  • Conflict resolution is built into the process.
  • Students' dreams are respected and encouraged.
  • Younger students build positive relationships with older students.
  • Students can learn a marketable skill.
  • Student jobs are available from D'N'A, Unlimited.
  • Parents and guardians can have meaningful roles in the program.
  • Teachers' "time on task" is substantially increased.

    • The payoff is decreased violence, along with improved grades and test scores.

    Dreams 'N' Aspirations, Unlimited's Mission Statement

    The DNA (and D'N'A) in each of us holds the promise of many gifts, but the expression of this potential is often ridiculed, repressed, suppressed, or destroyed by forces within the family, school, or society. Our mission is to lift up that potential in each child using the Network in the Schools model so that his or her D'N'A will truly be unlimited.

    These are Our Tasks.

    To those who insist that it is not society's, but the parents' responsibility to nurture their children, we say that the ready availability of guns and explosives, the increasing prevalence of children with little or no family involvement, the anger that can result from emotional isolation, and the lack of appropriate ways to express that anger, mean that our society will be faced with an ever-increasing number of angry children (later adults) with the means to express that anger with violence. We can either 1) accept the likelihood of continued and increasing violence, 2) create a police state, or 3) HELP THESE CHILDREN!

    We believe that the NIS addresses the roots of the violence that permeates our society today. NIS is running successfully today in a number of schools. It works. It is inexpensive. It is self-propagating. It is well documented. It is happening in San Diego! It can happen in your community!
