The Dueling Dragons are two of the most unique roller coasters in the world. Billed as the worlds ony near-miss roller coasters, they offer some of the most amazing experiences ever on a roller coaster. They are called near-miss coasters because over the duration of the ride, they nearly miss hitting one another three times. The first of these near misses is where the Fire Dragon goes over the top of the Ice Dragon, which is doing a barrel roll. The riders feet come within 3 feet of hitting each other. The second near-miss experience is what made this roller coaster famous. The two coasters are sent hurtling directly at each other, only to loop away at the last second. The riders come withing two feet of hitting one another in the process. The final of the near-misses are interlocking corckscrews, in which the track of the two coasters are twisted together. The whole experience is made possible by the fact that it is an inverted coaster(hanging down from the track), which allows you to see below you. If the ride weren't amazing enough already, it also claims the title for worlds longest cue line, which is over a mile long! But thats not a bad thing, as it has the most amazing and extravagant theming ever created. Which shouldn't be a surprise, since the whole theming was directly supervised by Steven Spielberg! This is by far one of the greatest roller coasters ever created.
First Near Miss: Fire passes above a flat-spinning Ice
This is the first near miss, which comes just after the two trains take opposite descents once leaving the lift hill. Fire comes rushing towards Ice, and as it ascends a little airtime hill, Ice performs a zero-g-roll directly beneath it. Its a close call for riders on both Dragons.
Second Near Miss: Fire and Ice loop away from each other
This second of the three near misses is one of the most well-known pictures of the entire park. The two dragons come rushing in directly at each other, only to loop away at the last second, leaving the legs of the riders less than 3 feet apart. The view from the front seat is unbeatable, but all riders experience the rush of having someone elses feet right below theirs.
Third Near Miss: Fire performs an interlocking corkscrew with Ice
The third near miss is less of a scare for the riders, but creates quite a spectacle for the onlookers. The two Dragons race in at each other, and both do interlocking corkscrews through each other...its a very cool element, and a sight to see when watching from the entrance.
