Demmy was created in 1994. I was just fourteen years old and was a participant of a very unusual clique. My friends and I all had imaginary friends--at fourteen! (yeah, I know). We would talk to them on a sort of homemade Ouija board as if it were a telephone and write letters to cartoon characters which one or another of us would invariably answer. If you didn't want to know this about me you shouldn't have clicked on this link. If you don't want to know any more of this about me (it does get worse) I suggest you turn back now while the back-turning's good. Anyway, being that we were fourteen (except for CJ and Kellee who were 15 and 16 respectively--I think) most of my friends had created for themselves imaginary boyfriends. Many of them were "dating" characters form television shows, others had invented and created for themselves the "perfect" companion and mate. My biological clock however, for reasons unbeknownst even to me, did not work from the traditional stand point. I wasn't interested in boys. (No, I'm not interested in girls either!) My desires just glazed over the courting step of the process entirely and got straight to the point of the thing. I wanted a baby. So I created one. Demmy was, several years ago, my imaginary daughter. And in a very real way she has grown, developed, and aged over the years just as a real little girl might. So that to this day she is very real to me. |
