Logan Robert, Page 8!!
October 23, 2007 - I had another ultrasound today due to the single umbilical artery. Logan's stomach is measuring small. He dropped from the 30th percentile down to the 20th. The specialist wants to do an amniosentisis to see about lung maturity - it is scheduled for Thursday, November 1st. If all is okay, he said we should get the baby out. My OB (I see both regularly) previously said she wants to induce by 39 weeks anyway, so since the amnio is scheduled late next week (end of my 38th week) I kinda think it is pointless if we were gonna induce the following week anyway. I'm a little scared of the amnio I guess. I see my regular OB Thursday, so I guess I'll see what she has to say. Besides that, all else looks good with Logan. Here is the ultrasound from today. He is weighing in at 5 lbs, 14 oz.
October 25, 2007 - Had another NST and appointment with my normal OB. Of course Logan aced the NST yet again. My OB doesn't think the amnio is necessary since we were planning on inducing around then anyway. But then, my blood pressure came back high and she is concerned. She took me off work (I'm finishing up today but thats it) and I have to go in tommorrow to have it rechecked. If it is still high she is sending me right to the hospital to have the little guy. If it has come down, she is still planning on inducing me on Sunday. At this point, Logan will thrive better on the outside since he is not getting the nutrients he needs inside any longer. (Due to the single umbilical artery). Since I am already full term, there shouldn't be any serious issues with him being two weeks early. I am relieved, excited and nervous all at the same time! So this may be my last update for a while!!!
October 28 - 29, 2007 - Baby boy is finally here. We got to the hospital bright and early Sunday morning. (Actually it was still dark). We got settled in, filled out paperwork and waited for the doctor to begin the induction process. At 9:30 a.m. my doctor gave me medicine to start labor. It was slow going. By 1:30 p.m. I had made very little progress (only 2-3 cm dialeted) and was given a second dose of medication. About four hours later (5:30 p.m.) my doctor broke my water and I finally began making some progress. I was fully dialted by 2:00 a.m. The baby's heartrate would fall unless I stayed on my right side - they believed he may have been laying on the umbilical cord and cutting off the blood supply when I moved. Eventually it became clear that if I continued to try and push, it could hurt the baby. At that time, we opted to get a C-Section rather than risk harming the baby. So I was prepped and wisked off to the Operating Room. I was scared I would feel it, but they were so good that I had no idea he had been born until they brought him around to show me. He was purple and not moving - I was a little scared. But I finally heard him cry a few minutes later and was relieved. After 18 hours in labor, a C-Section delivered us our little guy at 3:50 a.m. on October 29th. How fitting - he was always most active between 3-4 a.m.!  Apparently he did have problems breathing and was on oxygen for 7 minutes, but didn't require any additional care after that. He weighed 51lbs, 10oz and was 19 1/2 inches long. We are not sure who he looks like, but he has a full head of dark hair, dark blue eyes shaped like his mama, and monkey feet like his daddy!!
