Most Oscar nominated movies were shown at GSC MidValley and Summit at RM5, except the recent ones like The Hours. :D

8   International Women's Day

Although women accounts for 1/2 (maybe more in some countries) population of the world, inequality still exists. Male students get higher marks than female students even though the female students perform on the same level as the males or better than them. Family prefer sons to daughters. Even mothers treat sons like God. Everything the son does is great for mankind. Everything the daughter does is stupid and wasteful. Women are restricted to getting married and breed (male) kids. Priviliges and education rights go to males. Higher positions are only for males. Son is #1!!!

These are only a few examples. Women suffer violence, poverty, hunger, restriction... The people who use religion to control women are abusing religion to their own advantage. No real God would hurt a specific sex - God (if there is/are) must be fair to every equal being.

It's only human who commit the inequality, let the inequality goes on and then blame it on other things.

Let's remember that without women, there's no YOU! OK, it takes 2 to tango - women and men's wellfare are equally important.

Appreciate ALL FEMALES today and everyday from now on if u hvn't. Respect them as a human being, not a slave to:
clean after u
bow to u
satisfy your lust
be ur hit bag when u r frustrated/angry.

Don't let the vicious cycle of oppressing women repeat. It's in your hands to do the right thing.

BTW, National Women's Day is on 25 Aug.

1   Chinese New Year

Hahh... After the Mega Sale which fell on Hari Raya and X Mas, fewer shops offer sales for CNY. This is the time to visit long lost relative and ask the same questions that u had asked every year but forgot what the answers were. :P Still, other than trying to plaster ur smile all day long, u would be catching up with ur fav people. The best part when I was a kid was going to other people's houses and try different cookies. Yummmm :)

A friend had asked on New Year's Eve, "So u r *watever age* now. What have u done?" Gulp. Makes u think, doesn't it?

I had a relative who threw ang pao to me. That was really rude - so he thinks I am nowhere near his status?! Donated the $ - which was only a measely RM2.

1   Territorial Day (for Kuala Lumpur & Labuan)

Celebrations would definately be in KL & Labuan (duh!) - around Merdeka Square where Malaysia's 1st Prime Minister, YAB Tunku Abdul Rahman had declared independence for Malaya and Malaysia (Malaya + Sabah & Sarawak). Holiday for WP! Yeah! :)

14   Valentine's Day

Commercialism is always apparent during Valentine's Day and women seems to eat more chocs while men think of ways to remember when it's Valentine's Day and recall what the women like/dislike. Nah! Nowadays, almost everyone exchange gifts, not just the men and they are stressing how to spend the oh-so-special-day with somebody special. Incredibly, in Japan, females give males gifts and love letters, not the other way around!

IMHO (In my humble opinion, ahem), Valentine's Day is just like any normal day. Hah! U must be thinking I am a desperate, depressed, unattractive, old maid who doesn't have "the special other". I am not - the "desperate, depressed, unattractive, old maid" bit. I'm not kidding. Being single has so many great things - Relationships > Singles Rule!

Valentine's Day shouldn't be the only day to appreciate your loved ones - partner, lover, boyfren/galfren, mother, father, bro, sis, great grand aunt, your lizard, yourself, etc - not neccesary in that order. If u love sb/sth, everyday is precious.

Cinemas in Malaysia

Recently, the KLWFF (KL World Film Festival) was held at MidValley's GSC and KLCC's TGV where international and local movies were shown for free on 17-18/02/03.

U can't watch 2 movies consecutively as u need to queue 1 hr b4 the show starts in KLCC. Actually, if u Q 1 hr b4, u wouldn't get the ticket unless u r VERY lucky. GSC's Q was faster as there are more counters and u could take any time's movies.

But this event is gr8! More ppl are exposed to foreign films with different and similar cultures. If only it lasted longer than 2 days..

Tanjong Golden Village - booking usually leaves you frustrated as you had keyed in for the day, time, movie, etc only to be told that they are experiencing some technical problems or there is no more ticket available for booking.

Some of the staffs at the counter are rude but I had seen a deaf (or mute?) guy working there! Bravo for hiring these people! (I didn't mean the bad guy) If they can do the job well, why not?

Generally TGV's sound and picture quality are better than GSC. However, since TGV started online booking (Internet), the system is sometimes down and nobody can book any movie! Service quality is declining and they need to hire more friendly, helpful staff! Maybe more perks and training for the staff would motivate them? There were also some reported technical errors during movie screening.


GSC
Golden Screen Cinema - phew, the queue at MidValley is always long but the service is better than TGV. GSC cinemas also have more space in the seating and wider screens, especially at The Summit and MidValley. I prefer Summit for availability but MidValley has more shopping complex and public transport.

There's also the International Screen (only at MidValley)- art, funny, action, etc movies that you can watch only at GSC MidValley as other cinemas do not show foreign other than from Malaysia, US, UK, Hong Kong and India.

The queue is worst on Wed (RM6/movie) and weekends. I swear, almost all the KL & Selangor residents go to KLCC's TGV and Midvalley's GSC!

Hot Chick Again, Rob Schneider acts in a comedy with crony-disgusting jokes (remember The American Gigolo?). This time, a beautiful but selfish girl, Jessica (Rachel McAdams) is cursed and wakes up in his body. Havoc and laughter follows when they have to switch their bodies back to the original ones.

Darkness Falls sets in New England where Kyle Walsh must save his ex-gf's younger bro who has the same nightmare as Kyle - the Fairy Tooth Grandma who was wrongly punished for a missing kid.

Just Married has real life lovers - Ashton Kutcher of That 70's Show and Dude, Where's My Car? and Brittany Murphy of 8 Mile as sex-crazed and deeply in love newly marrieds. Unfortunately, their honeymoon was a disaster. Is love enough for marriage? Not really that funny but it's quite romantic and scenic... Although you'd know Brittany wears extra padding and push ups all the time!

Star Trek: Nemesis Patrick Stewart and the rest of Star Trek crew have to be on a delicate diplomatic mission - to meet Romulans in Romulus. FYI, the Romulans have always been the Federation's enemy. Sigh... although the computer effects are nice, some the scenes do not make sense - like when Captain Luc Picard's small and old ship slammed into his Nemesis' more superior ship and his ship was actually intact! His ship can't even be invisible but whoa, it IS sturdy! How did Sizhan (I forgot his name) become a Romulus leader from slave? But watch out for Data though.

Trapped was full of famous people - Kevin Bacon as the mastermind of the kidnapping, wife and partner in crime - the wild Courtney Love, sexy couple Charlize Theron and Stuart Townsend (Queen of the Damned with Aaliyah). However, the kidnappers didn't expect the kid they kidnapped (Dakota Fanning of I am Sam and Ally McBeal) was asthmatic. Some of the scenes are filmed like Blair Witch Project. Not worth RM10 but passable for RM6

DareDevil was banned here, so the VCDs and DVDs are selling like hot cakes! Claimed to have too much violence.. It stars Alias's tear-jerker when she's not kicking butt, Jennifer Garner, Colin Ferrell and Ben Affleck.


Cradle to the Grave stars Jet Li (Taiwan's agent Su), DMX as a robber n loving father, Kelly Hu of The Scorpion King and Martial Law, Mark Dacascos of China Strike Force.. about a group of robbers who were hired to steal black diamonds in a bank. The other gems were stolen for themselves but some of them were stolen by Su. Funny how after each cut by the censorship, the actors still blurt, snapped and shout, "!%$#"


The Hours, the Grammy Award winning movie - Nicole Kidman, Julianne Moore and Meryll Streep!! There was some comlaints that the movie is boring but it won lots of awards so far.. Judge it yourself!

After Nicole divorced with Tom, she just gets better and recognised for her efforts rather than being dismissed as Mrs. Tom Cruise. Yeah!!! All the main casts here are nominated in Grammy, Oscar, BAFTA, etc!!!


Maid In Manhattan a NY Cinderella story has JLO (bum-bombshell) as a maid (remember her Jenny from the Block song?) who wore a hotel's guest's coat and besotted Ralph Fiennes (the suffering lover in The English Patient), a politician. Personally I've never liked any of her movies except Selena, her breakthrough movie about the Latin singer (Dreaming of U) who was killed at the height of her career. But she's hard working and can dance, getting better with her singing career.. Guys definately love her or hate her.


Final Destination 2 Rachel (AJ Cook) and her friends are going on hoilday on the same day of the year after the airplane crash (Final Destination 1) but she suddenly had a premonition of a highway accident. When all of her friends died, she and others who escaped the road accident met up at the police station. Most of them don't believe that Death is coming after them but Rachel has an ally in the cute Greg-lookalike (Dharma & Greg) policeman. Desperate, Rachel asks the sole survivor from the airplane crash played by Ali Larter how to save themselves. I still prefer the 1st one since there was novelty but this 1 also has some new ideas on how the people can die.

Bend It Like Beckham was shown last yr at GSC MV and recently at the KLWFF event and official site of KLWFF. Guess it must be doing very well, since the cinemas are showing it again.. about Jasmin(der), a talented football player in the park with her friends. She goes against her family values - women in the family should NEVER put a bald head man (u know who!) poster in the bedroom.. U gotta find a Indian/Singh man to marry! Don't miss this!!!


Shanghai Knights has Jackie Chan & Owen Wilson (bro of Luke Wilson, the buck-teeth dracula in 1 of X-Files series) again. I didn't watch the 1st one, Shanghai Noon which has Lucy Liu of Charlie Angels and Ally McBeal fame.. But this 1 is very funny with interesting stunts. Fann Wong (a Singaporean actress-singer-dancer) as Lin, Chon's baby sis is actually quite good with the martial arts. Some of the scenes - including the dream which "Sherlock Holmes" had was cut in the cinema. Donnie Yen, another martial arts actor (Hero) is the baddie who wants to be China's Emperor.

Mistake of the movie :: In the final fighting scene, Roy O'Bannon was hanging on the clock's huge hand but there was no shadow while Chon was fencing "The 10th in line" royal blood to England's throne.


Cat & Mouse Andy Lau (Infernal Affairs) & Cecilia Cheung (Fly me to Polaris, Para Para Sakura)


My Lucky Star Miriam of Love Undercover plays Kitty & Tony Leung (Hero, Infernal Affairs) as Liu Po in this romantic comedy about a really bad luck gal (Yip) who met feng shui master. Their ancestors had crossed path and from frens, they became enemy due to fengshui. His family's motto is to avoid Yip at all costs as he can get bad luck - from cold to the end of the war.


Love for All Seasons stars Sammi Cheng & Louis Koo about a guy in search of the warrior woman with lots of scars who had saved him. Both had acted in Man's Best Friend with Shin Hin. Heard rumors that Sammi & Louis are dating although Sammi has been with Andy Hui, another Hong Kong singer-actor for a looooong time.
A lot of ppl complaint that the story is not interesting and the movie's only for die-hard Sammi & Louis fans..


Hero boasts a stellar casts - Jet Li, Maggie Cheung, Tony Leung, Zhang Zi Yi and Donnie Yen! Was nominated for Oscar and American Academy Awards. Director Zhang Yi Mou (not related to Zi Yi) was hoping it would repeat the success of Ang Lee's Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon. The film was actually VERY long but Miramax edited it. Needless to say, Zhang Yi Mou, a perfectionist, was not very happy about it. There are more news about Hero and Jet Li.


Ada Apa Dengan Cinta?
Dian Sastrowarooyo and Nicholas Saputra, lead actors for Indonesian movie, came to KL (namely TGV KLCC and GSC MidValley) to screaming fans on 10-11 Jan 02. It's about love/hate story between secondary schoolmates - beautiful, popular Cinta (Dian) and quiet, social outcast Rangga (Nicholas)... Nice title soundtrack song by Melly Goelaw & Erik.

It also touches on suicide, teen conflicts, peer influence and love. The kissing scene was censored here - what?! As if nobody kiss their boyfriends/girlfriends here already! Cis! That kiss was an expression of love. Isn't it better to make love than war? What is our censorship thinking?! They want us NOT to show our affection to our loved ones?


Infernal Affairs starring Andy Lau, Tony Leung, Edison Chan, Shawn Yu, Eric Tsang, Anthony Wong, Sammi Cheng and Kelly Chen was the highest grossing movie in Hong Kong last year. The Ring (US version) stars Australian actress, Naomi Watts as the journalist who investigates the mysterious, cursed video. I haven't seen this yet but heard from friends that the original Japanese version is scarier.

At about the same time, Ring 0 (Japanese version) is showing locally in the cinemas, the prequel to The Ring. A few months earlier, the same director had Dark Water out, starring Hitomi Kuroki. She also acts in tv drama as a rich housewife in Golden Bowl with Takeshi Kaneshiro and as independent single mom in Imagine with Fukada Kyoto.


LOTR (Lord Of The Rings) 2: The Two Towers
Frodo, Sam, Merry, Pippin, Aragorn the Human King, Legolas an elf (:P), Saruman (White Wizard became Lord Sauron's ally), Lord Sauron (creator of the Ring to rule them all), Gandalf (betrayed by Saruman), Gollum (multiple personality in this CGI-Andy Serkis), Arwen (Elf Princess who loves Aragorn) and Galadriel (Queen of Elfs) are back!

This time, the fellowship of the ring went different ways: Merry & Pippin (2 funny, naughty Hobbits) were kidnapped and had to escape into the dark, dense forest; Aragorn, Gimli (shorty) and Legolas to save Merry & Pippin, Gollum tried to steal the ring back from Frodo, Sam must prevent Frodo from giving in to the ring... Aragorn is also torn between Arwen and Eowyn. Oh! More charming, delightful and exciting scenes! :D BTW, if u missed LOTR 1: The Fellowship of the Ring, GSC is showing it at MidValley.


James Bond: Die Another Day
another James, James Bond movie is really exciting - great action, costume, new gadgets (esp. the invisible car). Heard lots of women and gays are gushing over Pierce Brosnan. Still, Bond jumps into the sack or anywhere, anytime convenient with any hot females around. Does he use condom? When is he getting HIV? And is there is any political stand behind the plot - if u take the movie seriously? This time it's a Korean baddie.

Oscar winner, Halle Berry joined Pierce Brosnan in battling baddies and make love in a very inconvenient/inappropriate place (it's sacred). Really! If other ppl have sex in a church, would there be outcry? Rosamund Pike, a British TV actress has the smoothest skin! Halle (gold) & Rosemund (silver & pastel) are in Revlon's 007 Collection FW2002 ad campaign. Pierce Brosnan had agreed to star in the next 007. I still think Sean Connery is the best James Bond...


Harry Potter 2 is darker and more thrilling than the 1st one. HP1 is funnier and innocent. Notice Harry & Ron's actors voices had become 'more mature'? I'd say, Ron's actor is much better than Harry's actor that Daniel Radcliff but then Ron is funnier than Harry. Daniel looks and behaves his part as Harry - kind, innocent but smart. Hermonine is really beautiful and more intelligent than Harry! Kenneth Branagh is really delightful. Richard Harris, who played the kind, wise wizard, Prof. Dumbledore, had passed away and Ian McKellen (as Gandalf in LOTR) would replace him.


The Eye (Malaysian Angelica Lee, singer-actress, won an Best Female Actress for her main role) - A blind girl who got a new pair of eyes from a Thai girl who could see those things (ghosts) when she was alive. Phua Chu Kang's Ah Beng (Pierre Png) appeared as the Thai doc. Eerie.. and sad. Review of the film at The Eye @ LoveHKFilm.com

Leon Lai discarded his pop-star looks and wore a nerdy spec, became an obsessed with curing his wife in Three : Coming Home (Hong Kong) also won Best Male Actor. The 1st part is from Korea about a dead wife/mother trying to figure out what happened to her while the 2nd part is about traditional performances of dolls in Thailand, directed by Nonzee Nimibutr (Jan Dara, Nang Nak).


The Returner has Japan's current hot-magnet Takeshi Kaneshiro and Anne Suzuki as well as the eccentric mama-san :). Takeshi was really popular in Hong Kong during the time when Nicky Wu, Aaron Kwok and er, other teen idols came out.

I had read in 1 of Takeshi's extensive fan website: Takeshi's Internet Family that it was a GREAT movie with all that action and comedy that would appeal to females (his good looks) and males (Matrix style action). But alas, the poster looks better than the movie. Sigh, maybe I had expected too much after reading that fan's review. The movie wasn't bad, just had weird sense of action and comedy. But ah.. if anyone has the poster, pls give it to me? ;) He had also acted in Japanese drama, namely Official Kamisama mou sukoshi dake/ God please give me more time / Precious time Homepage @ Fuji TV (Japanese) with Fasio model, Fukada Kyoko

TV3's showing Storm Rider at 7pm starring that guy who played the really naughty, wild, passionate dessert smuggler in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon tv series(NTV7 at night). That female partner of this actor in CT, HD also acts in SR but not as his gf. Storm Rider the movie is more interesting though - with Aaron Kwok, Ekin Cheng, Shi Qi and a Malaysian actress as that woman whom all the 3 guys (Frost, Wind, Cloud) loved. Both tv series' storylines differ from the original movie.

Meteor Garden 1 - Barbie Hsu and F4 on ntv7 at 6pm Mon-Fri. Lots of scenes were cut - not only the kissing scenes but normal conversations too! This is too much!

Vic Chou	Hua Ce Lei - the nice guy
Vaness Wu	Mei Zhuo - most feminine looking of all - beautiful straight, shiny hair but he's the best dancer in the group

Astro is already showing Meteor Garden 2 which was filmed in Taiwan and France. It also has Miriam Saram, a Singaporean who doesn't have much expression except pretty eyes. She suffered lots of backlash for fans hate her for stealing Dao Ming Si (Jerry Yan) from San Chai (Barbie Hsu). Hey, if she's convincing in being the 3rd party, then she still have some talents in acting!

Sabrina: The Teenage Witch on ntv7 Sun 8:30pm, earned top marks for shows that are good for ya. But I still prefer the old starting where there's no Sabrina hopping and dancing like Britney Spears in hot suits. Miss Harvey... The aunts are still very funny - Salem, too.



So many of us (I know I did!) tuned in to Ally McBeal when Robert Downey became Ally's psyciatrist and opponent in court, lover in bed! It's just really terrible that Robert keep feeding his drug addictions. Huh! Now in the last season, there's (no more) James Marsden (X-Men), still Lucy Liu (she's getting less scenes because the Ally McBeal's crew couldn't stand her "I'm a movie star now" attitude or she wants to concentrate on making movies?)

Portia (she's a lesbian? Hah, all those guys who pinned for her must be crying now. Did you know she had acted in Baywatch & she's an Australian and those shinny blond hair is real?), other characters like John Cage @ The Biscuit (Peter McNicol) is making a comeback (still weird and cute - ugly, adorable), Fish (he's a bad lawyer but a wonderful employer), (no)secret-ary Elaine still the exhibitionist, etc are still there.

Whoa! There's Jon Bon Jovi as the plumber! Christina Ricci plays Lolita who is sweet & vulnerable, next she's a roaring, fierce lawyer. Very manipulative. There's also Matthew Perry, another lawyer who reminds Ally of old love, Larry (Robert Downey Jr).

The X-Files is still on air, sometimes interesting stories, other times zzz... Still, Doggett's expressions are better than when he acted as a robot.


If u wanna listen to music and laugh, tune in to TV3 on Sun 7pm for S Club 7. The UK group now only has 6 members, minus Paul but he was still in the group in the 2nd season. S Club 7 belted out Have You Ever Loved Somebody and Never Had a Dream Come True.

Long Vacation is a romantic-comedy with Minami (Tomoko Yamaguchi) an aging tomboyish model who couldn't find work, her delightful best friend, Momoko (Izumi Inamori), Shinji (Yutaka Takenouchi) a modern hippie (Minami's younger charming but rugged bro) and talented sophomore Ryoko (Takako Matsu).

Senna wanted to be a great pianist but he teaches piano to kids and spoilt brat(Ryoko Hirosue). He's not exactly a man with lots of achievements as he still doesn't have the courage to ask Ryoko out. When Minami's fiance ditched her on the wedding day, she found her fiance had already cleaned up his part of the apartment which was shared with Senna. Because she had no place to live, she made herself at home in her ex-fiance's room.

Funny drama on how the selfish newscaster become stepmom and lots friendly advices (advances?) from her husband's best friend, acted by Nagatsuka Kyozo. Eiji Onizuka (acted by Takashi Sorimachi, also sang the theme song, Poison) was a gangster head who wanted to be a great teacher (hence the title: Great Teacher Onizuka) and he tried to solve the students' problems but got into trouble for using unusual methods. At 1st, he made an enemy in another fellow teacher, Azusa Fuyutsuki (played by Nanako Matsushima) and the stubborn headmaster. A very funny, touching drama!

acted in Meteor Garden, a Mandarin tv series which was a huge hit in Taiwan, then to the rest Asia. It's about a bunch of spoilt brats (who else?) who bully the students. A petite, innocent but brave girl (played by innocent looking but has sports tatoo - Barbie) confronted the leader of the gang and...

It was so successful that they have a sequel, filmed in Taiwan and France. The 1st part is showing on Mon-Fri at 6pm on TV3. The 2nd part has already been shown in Taiwan. They had also sang the theme song for Lilo & Stitch for the Mandarin version of Elvis Presley's I Can't Help Falling In Love With You.

F4 recently released a new album called Fantasy. There were also news of F4 members not in good terms with each other but they said they won't split (yet). Seems their manager takes 60% of their salary! That's not fair!

Daniel Wu acted in Love Undercover with recent Best Female Singer in Hong Kong, Miriam Yeung (Sammi Cheng lookalike, only Miriam's more adorable). A friend lent me No Money, No Honey by David Brazil - about the seedy life of sex-money-prostitution in Singapore as told to the writer. Mmmm.. I'm not encouraging any1 to buy the book but there are some interesting stories. The arguments that some of the people presented for prostitution are:

• Ppl have sex with their partners. Might as well get paid for sleeping with other ppl.
