Interesting links of the day:

The Connection ~ Shakespeare and Sexuality Asks whether Shakespeare was gay, straight, bi...or if it really matters at all.
Shakespeare's 'True Love' What started the whole debate. It's been determined that a painting that has been in this family for over 400 years is actually the third Earl of SouthHampton in drag and not a local bishop's niece as originally thought.

WAITING FOR MACBETH

Well, I'm going to have to rearrange my routine a bit. I'm a week into Intro to Theater and haven't journalled once. By the time my regular time rolls around, I'm either studying my head off or stumbling to bed. I guess I can just do it as soon as I get back from class.

Maymester is a blast ~ a crazy and frantic blast. I don't know how some folks are handling classes like psych II ~ that's a full semester of information crammed into three weeks. The first week is almost over and we've covered theater history from the beginnings up to the end of the Renaissance (that's Ancient Greece to nearly the 1700's.) Today, we finally got up to do some improv. We had to come up with a mirror routine ~ two people facing each other and literally mirroring each other's movements (well, duh.) We also played 'Tug of War' with an imaginary rope. It was fun!

The instructor has already tapped me for set design plans...and the play isn't until October. He wants a very traditional set for Macbeth. Whether it is traditional Scottish or traditional stage is up to me at the moment. I found some neat photos of Scottish castles online ~ the Great Hall of Crichton Castle and the general layout of Threave Castle will help alot. The plan I have so far is to use trompe l'oeil to simulate the rock walls of a castle, complete with a 'stone carving' of a deer or something. Any platforms could be painted in the same manner, to simulate stone.

Crazy me who can't seem to say no (o.k, I'll admit it...it comes from having said no for so long that I refuse to do so now), I may even try out for a part in 'The Scottish Play.' I think that I would like to try for Lady Macbeth ("Out, damn spot!") or one of the witches ("Bubble, bubble, toil and trouble!") but that wouldn't be much of a stretch, would it? :::_insert evil cackle here_:::
