| I pretty much perfected the design of the at-wheel disc brakes on the original Twin21 truck. The only problem was, I had them on the front but not the rear. This led to gear snapping braking torque on the rear diff. This car will have no such weak point. I intend to use the original machined aluminium calipers on the front, as they took a lot of work to make and work very well. On the rear I will fit a similar pair of cable-operated calipers. I intend to switch to steel discs all round, and possibly acetal pad material. Previously I used aluminium pads and fibreglass discs, which works really well, but steel discs look a lot cooler. I have not tried the friction between the engineering polymer type plastics and steel, but I suspect it could be higher than that between alu and fibreglass too. If not, I could go for thick aluminium discs and fibreglass pads, as they have the cool look of a metal disc with the friction I already know works. |
