Palmdale Mishka
Carolyn Tebbutt has long been involved in community charity work, including offering several pure Arabian horses as first prize in art union fund-raisers for cancer research and to support the Australian Olympic team. She has raffled miniature and Arabian horses for Channel 7 in Sydney and NBN Television in Newcastle to support the Childrens Medical Research Foundation.
In 1981 Carolyn offered the beautiful golden buckskin Palmdale Mishka for NBN's children's cancer research telethon in Newcastle. Mishka is a beautiful Part Arabian mare standing 15 hands high (60 inches or 150cm). Her sire, Palmdale Kahlua, is a rich mahogany bay pure Arabian stallion whose father was imported from Poland. Arabian horses are the race horses in Poland and there they go through rigorous testing to ensure soundness and stamina.
Although Mishka was won in the telethon art union and went to a very loving owner, two years later she came home to Palmdale Stud. Mishka was trained to perform marvellous tricks and in 1986 she proudly led the main parade of the Tamworth Country Music Festival - pushing a pram the length of the town!
Palmdale Mishka is one of the surprise stars of the tour at Crystal Creek Miniatures. She's only too happy to show off her talent, intelligence and, sometimes, a little cheekiness. A real crowd-pleaser!
Carolyn has produced a children's book about Palmdale Mishka's amazing life story, including poetry, illustrations and introductory horse-care tips for new owners. The Story of Palmdale Mishka has an accompanying t-shirt, photo badge, pillowcase, library bag and fridge magnets. Have your copy dedicated by the author when you visit Crystal Creek Miniatures!
