Abby emerged again later as a medical student in the E.R. of Cook County General. Unfortunately, she was forced to quit medical school halfway through her third year because her ex-husband Richard had forgotten to pay her tuition. But this was not the end of our beloved Abby. Shortly after this set back, she began taking nursing shifts in the E.R., and decided that she would rather be a nurse because she felt she made a greater impact in her patients lives as a nurse. |

Abby has dated two of the "main men" in the ER, Luka Kovac and John Carter.
During season 7, and part of season 8 she was with Luka Kovac, but that relationship ended badly. Primarily due to a jealousy of Carter and Abby's friendship and the attraction that was obvious between them.
She got together with John Carter, in the end of season 8 and the "Lockdown" kiss. Unfortunately, it ended in the beginning of season 10 with the return of Carter's "Dear Abby" letter, after a little over a year together. |

Abby recently decided that she wanted to return to medical school and finish her training. She recently graduated, but had to take the test again because she failed the first time. The second time however she passed and is now Dr. Lockhart. |
