| There is no perfect boat. I don't even own one
and I already want three. If you are thinking about buying a
boat, one of the best sites I can point you too is Yachtsurvey.com
by David Pescoe. I highly highly recommend you read every word
he has to say before throwing your hard earned cash in the
water. What are my three boats you may ask? Well, my
number one pick for the Miami area would be a 23' Contender
with two Yamaha
SaltWater Series II 200's. I only say this as a married
man. If I were still single I'd have to say a Hewes
16' flats boat, that is if I couldn't afford both. Again
I would choose the Yamaha
engine. Why? Reliability. Of everyone I've asked that
makes their money on the water, this is the only thing everyone
could agree on. Why do many government agencies such as US
Customs, US Coast Guard, Florida
Marine Patrol, etc. use OMC?
They get them darn near free. It's hard to turn your nose at
an engine that is 1/3 to 1/4 MSRP. Plus they get them replaced
bi-anually (or sooner if there's failure). Until I win the
lotto, I'll buy an engine that lasts. This brings me to
my third boat. Since I now live in San
Diego, CA, I need something a little more relaxing, like a Catalina
36' Mark II. So far California fishing sucks, so I might as
well sit back and enjoy some smooth sailing to Catalina
Island. Ok, so know you probably wonder what I do
have. Don't laugh....a Cobra
Kayak! Complete with HumminBird
DX200 fish finder, outriggers, live well, etc. A picture will
be posted soon. |
