A computer technician for the United States Pentagon by the name William Jake Sherman discovers an anamoly in his reports concerning funding for various minor civil projects. He is approached by an agent for the Syndicate and accepts an offer to join. After a faked death concerning a house fire, William Jake Sherman becomes to first non-German agent of the Syndicate. Later that year, he is assassinated by his fellow agents who believe he cannot be trusted. Future non-German agents are intially met with distrust, but not quite as untimely an end. Before his death, William assist in creating an advanced self-aware AI program for the Syndicate. It is called Cyborg. Cyborgs learns and advances itself as years pass.
NASA tracks an unknown rocket launch from Wyoming. SYND 1 becomes the first Syndicate satellite in orbit.
Soil composition analysis, gravity relations, and thermal visuals of Mars strongly convince influencial personnel at the National Aeronautics and Space Administration in the striking reality of colonies on Mars.
USA government officials become increasing concerned with the number of unscheduled rocket and satellite launches from American soil. A task group called "Clear Skies" is formed to investigate the matter.
Every member of task group "Clear Skies" is assassinated by Syndicate agents.
SYND 34 becomes the last non-permanent satellite launched by the Syndicate. During the same year, United States researchers yield an EM rail gun with plasma armatures that has a total power requirement of only 5.5 MJ. The refinment is logged in Syndicate databases.
Rifaximin surveys prove its use as an effective intestinal antibiotic. Studies show it also unlikely to cause antiobiotic resistance. Syndicate agents begin development of variant forms of Rifaximin to assist in increasing bodily immunities.
Japanese launch Hayabusa satellite to investigate asteroid field.
Mars rovers Spirit and Opportunity detail vast terrain information. Later that year, the United States Navy finalizes the development of an Advanced Gun System. AGS is the world's currently most advanced and smallest readily usable rail gun. It continues to reduce energy cost and miniturize overall size. Syndicate programs and agents track all research. Also during this year, Japanese develop a satellite referred to as Planet C to ascertain the value of the Venus atmosphere, perhaps as a colony.
