When
should you call the vet??
Use common
sense when assessing whether to call the vet. You should know your horse's
habits, past problems, and normal lumps. If you are not sure if your horse
has a serious problem or not , call the vet to discuss it. Never leave
a horse with an unexplained condition for more than 24 hours.
Call the Vet when your horse:
- is unable to take
weight on a leg
- is unwilling to
move
- has a wound that
is still bleeding under pressure
- has a wound that
is more than 1 inch long
- has a wound that
is infected
- has a pulse rate
over 50 per minute
- seems dull and
lethargic, lying down for long periods
- has gone 12 hours
without passing droppings
- is choking and
salivating and very distressed
- has a nasal discharge
and a high temperature
- coughs when exercised
and appear distressed
- coughs more than
twice an hour
- has a temperature
highter than 102°F
- kicks at is belly
*Ofcourse
these are just some of the symptoms you may observe in your horse when
he/she needs veterinary attention . Always take notice of irregular behaviour
and physical discomfort your horse may be having. Ignoring a problem can
only lead to something worse.
