The Process

| 1. | The class will be divided into teams of six members. |

Within your team, each member will be responsible for becoming an expert on one of the following figurative language forms: Simile, Metaphor, Alliteration, Onomatopoeia, Hyperbole, and Personification. Decide which form each team member will be responsible for. Visit the sites on the Resources page to help you in your research. Take notes on and/or print examples of your form of figurative language when researching in order to refer back when needed. |
| 3. | After completing your research, return to your team and share what you have learned about each figurative language form. |
| 4. | Next, brainstorm as a team to compile a list of possible memorable school year topics that you would like to include in the yearbook pages. |

Each member should then choose one of the topics from the list and begin composition of a poem. Your poem should contain examples of the figurative language form in which you have become an expert. During the composition process, you may assist any member of your team who may need ideas on their topic, suggestions for rhyming words, poetry pointers, etc., or you may seek assistance yourself. |
| 6. | When you have completed the rough draft of your poem, meet with at least two other team members to partner edit for the following: capitalization, punctuation, poem content, and presence of specific figurative language form. |
| 7. | After editing with partners, write the final draft of your poem on the paper provided by your teacher. |
| 8. | Collect all completed poems for your team and turn them in to the Yearbook captain (your teacher!) for publication on your class page in the Yearbook . |
