| This lesson was developed for use in correlation with the instruction of a Poetry Unit. In this Webquest, students will become adept in the identification and creation of five different types of figurative language. The WebQuest is anchored to fifth grade Language Arts Curriculum Standards, but is adaptable for upper elementary to middle school grades. |
| Considerations for Instruction |
| The time frame for the WebQuest is 4-6 days. | |
| Students should have received previous instruction in the following elements of poetry: rhyme scheme, stanza. subject, theme, mood, and imagery. | |
| Students should have previous experience with the process of editing creative writing with partners. | |
| Groups should be heterogeneous as far as creative writing ability, with best practice being the teacher assigning group members. | |
| Research information and poem drafts for the groups should be kept in a designated location for daily retrieval. |
