So you thought "LAND OF THE GIANTS" was just a cool sci-fi T.V. show from the sixties? Think again. This stuff is real. If you have a King James version of the Holy Bible and you've always been confused as to what Genesis 6:4 meant, you can thank the forefathers of the Catholic Church for this.

There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men, which were of old, men of renown.

The account of the 'Watchers' and their giant offspring is told in much greater detail in The Book of Enoch and is ratified in The Book of Jubilees. These books and numerous others were banned by the Council of Laodicea, i.e. the Catholic Church, in the fourth century.

The Book of Enoch (R. H. Charles version) - Chapter 6 and 7:

1 And it came to pass when the children of men had multiplied that in those days were born unto them beautiful and comely daughters. 2 And the angels, the children of the heaven, saw and lusted after them, and said to one another: 'Come, let us choose us wives from among the children of men 3 and beget us children.' The Second Book of Adam and Eve and found fragments of The Book of Giants in the Dead Sea Scrolls recount the same story. The fact that angels fell from grace is also ratified in the Holy Bible (KJV) by Job 4:18, 2 Peter 2:4 and Jude 6.

And he said unto me: These are being prepared for the hosts of Azazel, so that they may take them and cast them into the abyss of complete condemnation, and they shall cover their jaws with rough stones as the Lord of Spirits commanded.

If this is new to you, I know it may be a little hard to believe.

I was actually 'thrown out' (in a manner of speaking, rather I was unceremoniously 'asked' to leave) of a prayer meeting I attended recently on account of my trying to maintain that pre-flood times had giants that walked the earth. When I tried to quote the Book of Enoch in support of what I was saying, the leader of this prayer meeting stated that it was not part of the canonical scriptures and therefore was not valid proof. I then asked him what Genesis 6: 4 meant and he said that it 'wasn't meant for us to know.' Then I tried to explain to him how The Book of Enoch was still part of the Ethiopic Holy scriptures, and he just simply denied it and said that this had never been so. Then I produced a copy of the Book of Enoch (R. H. Charles version) and showed him plainly in the introduction how it had been translated out of the original Ethiopic and HE STILL DENIED THAT WHICH HE SAW RIGHT BEFORE HIS VERY EYES. He then accused me of spreading lies and working for Satan and asked me to leave and then escorted me to the door as if he really meant business. At the door to the church, he actually made a motion of brushing off the soles of his shoes after the manner of Yahushua's instructions to His disciples when their doctrine was not accepted as they went preaching from town to town. His fear (which is the best way that I can describe it) was, in fact, very astonishing.

It never ceases to amaze me how disciples of Yahushua (Christians) can believe in His supernatural birth through a virgin, and His supernatural resurrection from the dead, and all the supernatural miracles that He performed during His life, and all the supernatural occurrences in the Old Testament including the magnificient parting of the Red Sea such that the Israelites could escape the Egyptians, but giants...???...

'...Oh no! That's impossible! You must be crazy! You're the devil! Begone!'

Consider the following statement by Yahushua (Jesus) ~

"...For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day the Noah entered the ark."

"And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be."

St. Matthew 24: 38-39

Objectively speaking, there is nothing wrong with 'eating' or 'drinking' or 'marrying or giving in marriage'. What the Messiah was referring to here was the eating of living flesh and drinking of living blood --of animals and humans-- and the marrying and giving in marriage of fallen angels to the daughters of men. The giant unholy offspring spawned by the miscegenation between spiritual bodies and mortal flesh and their subsequent atrocious actions is what is being condemned, not the simple and innocent acts of eating, drinking and giving in marriage.

Compare this with Enoch 7:

3 ...became pregnant, and they bare great giants, whose height was three thousand ells: Who consumed 4 all the acquisitions of men. And when men could no longer sustain them, the giants turned against 5 them and devoured mankind. And they began to sin against birds, and beasts, and reptiles, and 6 fish, and to devour one another's flesh, and drink the blood. Then the earth laid accusation against the lawless ones.

Enoch 7: 3-6

Compare this with a covenant that Yahweh made with Noah upon leaving the ark and coming onto dry land once again as recounted in Genesis 9:

3 Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things.

4 But the flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat.

5 And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man's brother will I require the life of man.

6 Whoso sheddeth man's blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man.

Genesis 9: 3-6

One can see clearly here how, without the history of the giants and knowledge of their dreadful deeds, the line in verse 4 concerning Yahweh's commandment that man should not eat flesh 'with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof' carries little meaning. One could regard that line and wonder exactly why Yahweh specifically commanded Noah and his sons to not go around eating living flesh and drinking blood. One would be wondering just who in recorded history commonly did that that it became important enough to make an official covenant with Noah condemning such actions as soon as he emerged from the ark...?

Taking the Book of Enoch into account, it all becomes crystal clear...

...THE GIANTS, THAT'S WHO!!

Chapter 6 of the Book of Jubilees, another book banned by the Catholic church, describes this covenant in much greater detail:

1 And on the new moon of the third month he went forth from the ark, and built an altar on

2 that mountain. And he made atonement for the earth, and took a kid and made atonement by its blood for all the guilt of the earth; for everything that had been on it had been destroyed, save

3 those that were in the ark with Noah. And he placed the fat thereof on the altar, and he took an ox, and a goat, and a sheep and kids, and salt, and a turtle-dove, and the young of a dove, and placed a burnt sacrifice on the altar, and poured thereon an offering mingled with oil, and sprinkled wine and strewed frankincense over everything, and caused a goodly savour to arise, acceptable before

14 may be before the Lord our God continually. And for this law there is no limit of days, for it is for ever. They shall observe it throughout their generations, so that they may continue supplicating on your behalf with blood before the altar; every day and at the time of morning and evening they shall seek forgiveness on your behalf perpetually before the Lord that they may keep

15 it and not be rooted out.

From this we can clearly discern the post-flood origin of sacrificing animals on the altar before Yahweh and the exact reason why. We can also see clearly how banning certain scriptures can have a profound effect on future interpretation of sacred scriptures that survive such bannings. More importantly we can see how such bannings can greatly corrupt history itself.

A prime example of this corruption is manifest in Creationists' (those who believe in a short earth age) awkward inability to reconcile the existence of dinosaurs with biblical history. However, once one accepts Enochian writings as sacred scripture and a factual account of world history alongside the Holy Bible, the existence of dinosaurs is readily explained.

Consider a dream vision by Enoch set forth in chapters 86-88 of the Book of Enoch describing how 'stars' (angels) cast themselves down from heaven, became 'bulls' and miscegenated with the 'cows' (earthly beings; daughters of men and animals) producing 'elephants, camels and asses' (monstrosities). Then compare this with fragments from The Book of Giants which recounts how the 200 angels chose animals --as well as humans-- for miscegenation producing 'giants and monsters':

The angels exploit the fruitfulness of the earth.

The two hundred angels choose animals on which to perform unnatural acts, including, presumably humans.

1Q23 Frag. 1 + 6 ...two hundred donkeys, two hundred asses, two hundred...rams of the flock, two hundred goats, two hundred... beast of the field from every animal, from every bird... ...for miscegenation...

The outcome of the demonic corruption was violence, perversion, and a brood of monstrous beings. Compare Genesis 6: 4.

4Q531 Frag. 2 ...they defiled... ...they begot giants and monsters... ...they begot, and, behold, all the earth was corrupted... ...with its blood and by the hand of... giants which did not suffice for them and... ...and they were seeking to devour many... ...the monsters attacked it. [1]

And thus, the existence of dinosaurs reconciles with a short earth age. Accepting the Book of Enoch and related scriptures as the gospel truth, dinosaurs were really the monstrosities created by the unholy acts of the fallen angels which were not only committed on the daughters of men but on animals as well. It is to be remembered that fossils are created by a situation in which the bones of a species are suddenly buried in sediment. Then that sediment quickly solidifies into rock before the bones have a chance to decompose thereby leaving the impression of the bones in the newly formed rock. This is exactly the kind of scenario dictated by that of a cataclysmic flood. (By the way, carbon 14 radiodating and Uranium-thorium radiodating can also be reconciled with a short-earth age.)

The most important thing to remember is that if you already believe in the supernatural, e.g. the birth of Yahushua (Jesus) by a virgin and his subsequent resurrection from the dead, then believing in a race of giants produced by fallen angels fornicating with the daughters of men is really no different and requires no greater leap of faith.

Any disbelief on the part of someone who already believes in established religious miracles is only a result of social conditioning. The Catholic Church has corrupted and impeded proper interpretation of the Holy Scriptures for hundreds, even thousands of years. The propensity of mankind to only believe in the prevailing doctrine is powerful and is really just preying upon our desire to fit in with a tribe.

The demonic race of giants was the exact reason that Yahweh brought about the global destruction of the Great Flood.

This has alot to do with why we no longer live more than a thousand years. This is explained in The Book of Jubilees, Chapter 4 and Chapter 5, (R. H. Charles version):

29 which the Lord hath cursed.' And at the close of the nineteenth jubilee, in the seventh week in the sixth year [930 A.M.] thereof, Adam died, and all his sons buried him in the land of his creation, and he

30 was the first to be buried in the earth. And he lacked seventy years of one thousand years; for one thousand years are as one day in the testimony of the heavens and therefore was it written concerning the tree of knowledge: 'On the day that ye eat thereof ye shall die.' For this reason he

31 did not complete the years of this day; for he died during it.

Looking for a modern-day equivalent? Believe it or not, it exists:

John Harris, a top British Scientist who helps direct his country's genetic research, said the cracking of the human DNA code heralds significant advances in medicine, inluding cheating death.

Harris says such advances could have people living twice as long as today, and give them the potential to live for 1,200 years. But he warns that the discovery of the human genome could allow the creation of a race of 'immortals' and threats of overcrowding and rivalry between the generations.

"Research...could lead to the indefinite extension of life, to the extent perhaps that we would begin to think of people who had received such life treatment as immortals," Harris said. "We are contemplating a world in which future children would have to compete indefinitely with previous generations for jobs, space and everything else."

(This was also reported in the Sunday Times [London], June 25, 2000. This was a big day in the news if you'll recall as many western newspapers carried front-page banner headlines about the decoding of the human genome.)

QUESTIONS: Could this be the rediscovery of lost genetics? And more specifically is this an attempt by man to undo that which was divinely ordained by God?

ANSWERS: Yes, and MOST DEFINITELY!!

Enoch was one of the first witnesses and judges to mankind's dealings with the occult.

There is only one Creator of heaven and earth, who is Yahweh, so therefore there can be only one Host of Heaven. When the group of 200 angels --the Watchers-- plotted to leave their appointed positions in the Host of Heaven, they elected to operate outside of this Holy Realm. At that time they 'fell' from grace but still retained some of their supernatural powers. Then they co-habited with the daughters of men and produced great giants. The souls of these giants were powerful evil spirits. Then Yahweh decreed that the fallen angels would be punished. First their giant offspring were sent one against the other in battle and destroyed themselves by the sword before the eyes of the fallen angels. Then fallen angels themselves were bound fast in 'the valleys of the earth' with great chains. At that time came the flood which destroyed all living things on earth save Noah and his family.

Even though the bodily remains of the giants (the offspring of the fallen angels) were also destroyed by the flood, their evil spirits continued on to further afflict mankind. Consider the following:

8 And now, the giants, who are produced from the spirits and flesh, shall be called evil spirits upon 9 the earth, and on the earth shall be their dwelling. Evil spirits have proceeded from their bodies; because they are born from men and from the holy Watchers is their beginning and primal origin; 10 they shall be evil spirits on earth, and evil spirits shall they be called. [As for the spirits of heaven, in heaven shall be their dwelling, but as for the spirits of the earth which were born upon the earth, on the earth shall be their dwelling.] And the spirits of the giants afflict, oppress, destroy, attack, do battle, and work destruction on the earth, and cause trouble: they take no food, but nevertheless 12 hunger and thirst, and cause offences. And these spirits shall rise up against the children of men and against the women, because they have proceeded from them.

Enoch 15: 8-12

1 From the days of the slaughter and destruction and death of the giants, from the souls of whose flesh the spirits, having gone forth, shall destroy without incurring judgement -thus shall they destroy until the day of the consummation, the great judgement in which the age shall be 2 consummated, over the Watchers and the godless, yea, shall be wholly consummated."

One of the keys here is the line "...shall destroy without incurring judgement..."

It is these evil spirits of the giants originally inherited from the fallen angels which inhabited the earth after the flood and will continue to work evil until the end of time and the great judgement. This is why many ancient pagan cults have giants in their legends such as that described in the Sumerian Epic of Gilgamesh or the Titans of Greek mythology. This mythology is more real than most people think in the sense that the evil spirits being worshipped actually existed. The only difference is that the pagan cults worshipped them as gods instead of the demons they really were and their legendary status as giants was based on real history. Consider the following:

1 And Uriel said to me: 'Here shall stand the angels who have connected themselves with women, and their spirits assuming many different forms are defiling mankind and shall lead them astray into sacrificing to demons as gods, (here shall they stand,) till the day of the great judgement in 2 which they shall be judged till they are made an end of.

(Enoch 19: 1,2)

The key part of this verse is "...their spirits assuming many different forms..." This refers once again to the evil spirits of the fallen angels being passed on to the giants whom, in flesh were destroyed but in spirit lived on and whom continued after the flood to lead men astray to worship them as gods. In light of the development of ancient pagan cults which we now casually regard as 'mythology', this is exactly what happened.

And for all intents and purposes, these evil spirits or demons are still with us today. They are covertly worshipped under deep cover by men and women who have great political and financial power in the world. It is these evil spirits' thirst for blood (remember the covenant?) which creates all destruction on the earth today. The evil spirits slake their thirst for blood by compelling mankind to commit murder, and engage in warfare and other atrocities.

Consider the colossus of Rhodes, an enormous statue that the ancient Rhodians built honouring their sun god, Helios. It was completed in 282 B.C. and stood about 110 feet high. It was constructed of melted bronze of war machines and a great siege tower left over from recent great battle. It is in this sense a monument honouring the victory of an unholy war.

Now consider the Statue of Liberty which is sometimes referred to as the modern Colossus. It stands about 120 feet. It was created by Auguste Bartholdi who was, in part, inspired by the Colossus of Rhodes. And although the statue supposedly commemorates liberty, the United States of America is essentially the greatest war machine on earth today. It's annual military budget is in excess of 300 billion dollars per year, more than the military budgets of the next fifteen countries combined.

Consider the giant statues on Easter Island. Although their origin is mysterious and lost in obscurity, most regard them as remnants of some ancient pagan idolatry. But why so big? The effort to create such idols must have been enormous. Even more monumental in terms of size is the Great Sphinx in Egypt. Its construction in ancient times without the help of modern-day technology and machinery still boggles the minds of historians and archaeologists. Once again, why so big? It is interesting to note that the chimeric character of the Great Sphinx closely co-relates to the 'monsters' created by the fallen angels of Enochian writings.

Now consider Mount Rushmore, the gargantuan busts of the founding fathers of United States of America carved into the side of a mountain. One could ask the same question as above: Why so big? Exactly which egos are being satisfied by having such gigantic commemorative structures being created? And what exactly does this commemoration of the founding fathers of America represent after all is said and done? Does it not represent war on and extermination of Native American peoples, the brutal enslavement of Africans, and the development of destructive technology and lifestyles? Does it not represent continuing American interventionism around the globe leading to more warfare, more destruction, disease, starvation and death at the doorstep of the world's least fortunate peoples?

In short, does it not represent blood?

Make no mistake.

The evil spirits of the giants are still among us and their insatiable thirst lives on.

And there it is.

Esoteric biblical quotes, the history of antediluvian times, the origin of dinosaurs, the origin of the blood covenant, the dimunition of the lifespan of mankind, the reason for the great flood, giants in mythology and gigantic structures in ancient and modern idolatry...

By accepting the Book of Enoch as Holy Scripture, in one fell swoop, all these mysteries are suddenly solved. As long lost pieces of the puzzle almost magically fall into place, one can't help but wonder...

Where did we go wrong?

If we are to accept the Book of Enoch as Holy Scripture (as we rightfully should) then the history of The Book of Enoch literally begins with Enoch himself.

Who was Enoch?

Enoch was essentially of the seventh generation of mankind or 'seventh from Adam'. You can verify this in Genesis 5: 1-19; Luke 3: 37,38; and Jude 14. See also: Enoch 37: 1,2 ~

1 The second vision which he saw, the vision of wisdom -which Enoch the son of Jared, the son 2 of Mahalalel, the son of Cainan, the son of Enos, the son of Seth, the son of Adam, saw.

Enoch was Noah's great grandfather. Many have interpreted the statement in Enoch 68: 1 literally and have mistakenly stated Enoch to be Noah's grandfather. This is incorrect. Check Enoch 10: 1 and Enoch 106 and 107 to see clearly how Lamech is Noah's father who was the son of Methuselah who was the son of Enoch. Compare this with the lineage descending from Adam to Noah in the Book of Genesis, chapter 5.

Enoch is the only man in biblical history to be 'translated' without seeing death (Genesis 5: 24; Hebrews 11: 5).

It was during Enoch's time that there existed, on earth, great giants, 450 feet high [?]... [2], who had been produced by the sinful cohabiting of fallen angels with the daughters of men. These fallen angels were called 'Watchers', since their original task was to watch over various parts of Creation (1 Enoch 15: 1["You should intercede" for men, and not men 3 for you:], Also - 20: 1,2).

Immediately following Enoch's official condamnation of them as instructed by Yahweh (1 Enoch 13: 5,6), the Watchers asked Enoch to intercede on their behalf with Yahweh because they could no longer "...speak (with Him) nor lift up their eyes to heaven for shame of their sins for which they had been condemned."

It is in Chapter 14 of the Book of Enoch that we first see mention of the words of Enoch existing in book form:

1 The book of the words of righteousness, and of the reprimand of the eternal Watchers in accordance 2 with the command of the Holy Great One in that vision.

And in Chapter 15:

And He answered and said to me, and I heard His voice: 'Fear not, Enoch, thou righteous 2 man and scribe of righteousness:

In Chapter 39, however, it is made even more explicit:

1 And it shall come to pass in those days that elect and holy children will descend from the 2 high heaven, and their seed will become one with the children of men. And in those days Enoch received books of zeal and wrath, and books of disquiet and expulsion.

Enoch --son of Jared-- is mentioned 9 times in the Holy Bible (KJV); 6 times in the Book of Genesis (chapter 5), once in the Gospel According to Saint Luke (Luke 3: 37), once in Hebrews (Hebrews 11: 5) and once in Jude (Jude 14). Jude 14, 15 explicitly quotes prophecy of Enoch which can be found in Enoch 1: 9.

Enoch 1: 9

The Book of Enoch was considered sacred scripture by those predating Yahushua (Jesus) and by disciples following Him. The earliest literature of the so-called "Church Fathers" is filled with references to Enoch. Second and Third Century "Church Fathers" like Tatian (110-172); Irenaeus, Bishop of Lyons (115-185); Clement of Alexandria (150-220); Tertullian (160-230); Origen (186-255); Lactantius (260-330) all approved of and supported the Enochian writings. Tertullian (160-230 C.E) even called the Book of Enoch "Holy Scripture". St. Augustine himself supposed the work to be a genuine of the patriarch. It was widely known and read the first three centuries after the days of the Messiah.

However, during the fourth century two incidents appear to stand out historically as having a profound effect on the future of the Book of Enoch.

First and foremost to affect its destiny was the fact that the Catholic church --which at the time was still in the process of being formed-- banned the Book of Enoch from its official canon of Holy Scriptures. This was accomplished at the Council of Laodicea which occurred sometime in the fourth century (exact dates are uncertain; some have documented it at 364 AD). This 'official' gathering of church authorities was responsible for establishing 60 ecclesiastical rules of which no. 60 defined a list of books which should and should not be recognized as Holy Scripture. Among those that were excluded was the Book of Enoch. Of prime importance here is the fact that subsequent records of the Council of Laodicea consider Canon LX to be 'of most questionable genuineness'. This is best exhibited by the exclusion of The Book of Revelation as well from Canon LX. As one can note from contemporary editions of the Holy Bible, this exclusion was eventually reversed. Unfortunately, the Book of Enoch did not go the same route. [4]

Secondly, the theme of the Book of Enoch dealing with the character and acts of fallen angels was openly proclaimed as heresy in the late fourth century by Filastrius, a Spaniard who was appointed bishop of Brescia, Italy. Filastrius, a.k.a. Philastrius, Philaster, Filaster or St. Philaster was a contemporary of St. Augustine and was once widely admired as a malleus haereticorum ("hammer of heretics"). Filastrius, according to the writings of his doting successor, St. Gaudentius, travelled over nearly the entire Roman world preaching against Jews, pagans and various heretics, especially the Arians. At the hands of the latter, Filastrius received a vicious scourging on account of his zeal for his work. His popular and 'fearful' Catalogue of Heresies (Liber de Haeresibus or Diversarum Hereseon Liber), which was composed circa 384 AD, numbered 28 Jewish and 128 Christian heresies. Among these was one (Filastrius, Liber de Haeresibus, no. 108) which effectually 'rubberstamped' Enochian scriptures as at great variance with the newly established beliefs of the Catholic Church.

Having thus become anathema to church authorities, The Book of Enoch gradually passed out of circulation. No doubt, copies of it were burned and destroyed by various Catholic hardliners of the time and what was once considered sacred scripture became 'lost' to the Western world for next 1200 years. However, as Divine fortune would have it, The Book of Enoch survived in Abyssinia (eventually to become Ethiopia) along with the Book of Jubilees and a number of other sacred texts.

Another phenomenom of great significance to what is currently and commonly regarded as Holy Scripture is the subtle transformation of the meaning of the word 'apocryphal'. Here the comparison of the origin of the word with the current dictionary definition is very telling.

'Apocryphal' was originally derived from the Greek apokruphos 'hidden,' a derivative of the compound verb apokruptein 'hide away,' which was formed from the prefix apo- 'away, off' and the verb kruptein 'hide' (source of the English crypt and cryptic). [5]

Originally the term was complimentary and was supposed to define sacred scriptures that were not meant to be made available to the uninitiated, i.e. the general public. As the official approval of these writings became increasingly into question, church authorities found themselves moving outside of esoteric circles which still regarded 'apocryphal' scriptures as sacred. Hence, via ecclesiastical Latin, 'apocryphal' soon came to mean any books of a heretical nature. Over time this transformed into the even more slanderous definition: 'of doubtful authorship or authenticity.' [6]

The virtual erasing of antediluvian history might have been complete had it not been for rumours of a surviving copy of the long lost Book of Enoch which drew Scottish explorer James Bruce [1730-1794] to Abyssinia ---later to become Ethiopia--- where true to hearsay he discovered that the Book of Enoch had been preserved by the Ethiopic Church. Procuring three copies of the sacred text, Bruce returned to Europe in 1773 after a six year sojourn and subsequently kept one copy for himself, presented one copy to the library at Paris, and one copy to the library at Oxford.

It was this latter donation which was eventually translated by a professor of Hebrew at Oxford, the Archbishop of Cashel, Richard Laurence, and after many hundreds of laborious hours, the first English translation of the Book of Enoch was published in 1821. Later translations included that of George Schodde in 1881, and of R.H. Charles in 1912.


Contemporarily speaking, remnants of several almost complete copies of The Book of Enoch were discovered among the Dead Sea Scrolls (1947) and attest to the fact that it predates Yahushua and that the ancients considered this a vitally important text. [7] Furthermore, the Ethiopic Church actually added the Book of Enoch to its version of the Holy Bible ---appearing right after the Book of Job--- and considers it canonical. [8]

An ell is an old English measurement equivalent to 45 inches (Random House Webster's Dictionary). If this was indeed the measurement that Charles was referring to then that would make the giants just short of two miles high [!] This seems inconceivable since any living thing of this size would create a major earthquake everytime it took a step no matter how gingerly it tried to move. Nevertheless, R. H. Charles was considered by some as an 'Enochian specialist.' Hence, this is probably a typo that was never corrected or maybe there were varying measurements referring to an ell (an Ethiopian ell?).

However, Reverend Richard Laurence, a professor of Hebrew at Oxford, produced the very first English translation of the Book of Enoch in 1821 which was translated directly from the three Ethiopic texts by a famous explorer named James Bruce who first uncovered them in 1773.

His version states that the giants were three hundred cubits tall:

11 And the women conceiving brought forth giants, 12 Whose stature was each three hundred cubits. These devoured all which the labor of men produced; until it became impossible to feed them; 13 When they turned themselves against men, in order to devour them; 14 And began to injure birds, beasts, reptiles, and fishes, to eat their flesh one after another, and to drink their blood.

A cubit is an ancient Hebrew measurement equivalent of the distance from the elbow to the tip of the fingers which was later standardized to be about 18 inches (or about 45 centimeters. 'McKenzie Dictionary of the Bible' and the 'New Concise Bible Dictionary'). This would make the giants about 450 feet tall. This is corroborated by The Book of Giants in The Dead Sea Scrolls by Wise, Abegg, and Cook, page 246. Putting this into perspective, however, would make the tallest dinosaurs (Ultrasaurus, Sauroposeidon) registering around 60 feet in height with all four legs on the ground appear the size of a chihuahua to the giants of this size. This is more conceivable albeit still mind-boggling to contemplate.

Aside from the above discrepancy, the R. H. Charles version is conceptually identical to the Laurence version. Personally, I prefer the R. H. Charles version since it is not frequently interpolated with explanatory footnotes (as with the Laurence version) which tend to interrupt the flow of understanding that can be derived from just a straight reading of the Book of Enoch. The Laurence version, however, is not without its merits.

[I will take this opportunity here to note that over the years of research I have become very suspicious of 'biblical scholarship' which quite often attempts to reconcile biblical history with a modernist point of view. This kind of biblical understanding amounts to sheer blasphemy since it usually ignores the actual physical act of Divine Creation in six days and subtly assumes modernist trappings such as the big bang theory, theory of evolution, long earth age, and, in general, an exclusively 'tangible' scientific perspective. This, in turn, conditions the masses to regard Biblical history and the miraculous events contained therein as legend instead of fact. The Holy Bible is then explained away as an ancient collection of allegory and metaphorical concepts. Under this spell of the modern world, the idea of a Holy Living Spirit of God disappears altogether. [3] ~ Son of Jared ~ It should noted here that there are essentially two Enochs, the Enoch of the Book of Enoch --son of Jared--- and another much lesser known Enoch who was the eldest son of Cain mentioned briefly in Genesis 4.

But of the new, the four Gospels--of Matthew, of Mark, of Luke, of John ; Acts; Seven Catholic epistles, viz. of James one, of Peter two, of John three, of Jude one ; of Paul fourteen, viz.: to the Romans one, to the Corinthians two, to the Galatians one, to the Ephesians one, to the Phillipians one, to the Colossians one, to the Thessalonians two, to the Hebrews one, to Timothy two, to Titus one, and to Philemon one.

It will be noticed that while this canon has often been used for controversial purposes it really has little or no value in this connexion, for the absence of the Revelation of St. John from the New Testament to all orthodox Christians is, to say the least, as fatal to its reception as an ecumenical definition of the canon of Holy Scripture, as the absence of the book of Wisdom, etc., from the Old Testament is to its reception by those who accept the books of what we may call for convenience the Greek canon, as distinguished from the Hebrew, as canonical.

We may therefore leave this question wholly out of account, and merely consider the matter from the evidence we possess.

In 1777 Spittler published a special treatise(1) to shew that the list of scriptural books was no part of the original canon adopted by Laodicea. Hefele gives the following resume of his argument:(2)

(a) That Dionysius Exiguus has not this canon in his translation of the Laodicean decrees. It might, indeed, be said with Dallaeus and Van Espen, that Dionysius omitted this list of the books of Scripture because in Rome, where he composed his work, another by Innocent I. was in general use.

(b) But, apart from the fact that Dionysius is always a most faithful translator, this sixtieth canon is also omitted by John of Antioch, one of the most esteemed and oldest Greek collectors of canons, who could have had no such reasons as Dionysius for his omission.

(c) Lastly, Bishop Martin of Braga in the sixth century, though he has the fifty-ninth, has also not included in his collection the sixtieth canon so nearly related to it, nor does the Isidorian translation appear at first to have had this canon.(1) Herbst, in the Tubingen Review, also accedes to these arguments of Spittler's, as did Fuchs and others before him. Mr. Ffoulkes in his article on the Council of Laodicea in Smith and Cheetham's Dictionary of Christian Antiquities at length attempts to refute all objections, and affirms the genuineness of the list, put his conclusions can hardly be accepted when the careful consideration and discussion of the matter by Bishop Westcott is kept in mind.
