Cub scouts can earn various belt loops, sports pins, etc.. by learning about and playing sports or by investigating an academic area. A scout can choose from any of the following activities: archery, art, badminton, baseball, basketball, bicycling, bowling, chess, citizenship, communication, computers, fishing, geography, golf, gymnastics, heritages, marbles, mathematics, music, physical fitness, science, skating, skiing, soccer, softball, swimming, table tennis, tennis, ultimate Frisbee, volleyball and wildlife conservation. Please refer to the program guide for more details. Each den leader should obtain a program guide from the pack, and make it available to den member families. Belt loops are awarded to boys who complete the three (3) belt loop requirements in an academic, subject or sport. Participation can take place individually or with the family, in the den or pack, or in the school or community. Belt loops may be worn on the cub scout belt. Cub scouts may choose to continue their involvement in an academic or sports area and earn the pin. Pins may be worn on the Cub Scout Academics and sport letter. The letter is available for displaying the pins earned and is not worn on the cub scout uniform. There are no specific requirements for earning the letter as it is merely designed to display pins. Some belt loops and pins need to be earned in Webelos. Please remember the following as you work on belt loops and pins: Sportsman requires two (2) individual sports belt loops and two (2) team sports belt loops. Athlete requires the Physical Fitness sport pin. Aquanaut gives you the choice of earning the swimming belt loop. Communicator give you the option to earn a belt loop for either computers or communication.
