United Methodist Home for Children

Each year, Pack 190 and our sponsor, the Upper Allen Kiwanis, work together to fill a Christmas wish list for the United Methodist Home for Children.  Donations of money and items are normally accepted through the first week of December.  See the Wish List page for details.

Including items purchased with donated money, Pack 190 sent almost 100 items to the Home in 1999.  That’s 100 happy children on Christmas morning!

In 2000, Pack 190 sent over 150 items to the Home!  Way to go, Pack 190!

In 2001, the number of gifts was down from the previous year.  Still, we made some children happy on Christmas!

Im 2002, we collected over 63 items and over $110 in gift certificates for the children. Great job, Pack 190!

In addition, the Home has a Webelos den.  Any den wishing to include these boys in an activity is encouraged to contact Pam C.

Scouting for Food

Each year, Pack 190 participates in the Boy Scouts of America Scouting for Food Drive to benefit local food banks.  The recipient for our area is the South Central PA Food Bank.  Scouts in full uniform distribute door hangars on a Saturday in March, and collect them on the following Saturday.

Through the efforts of Pack 190 and our affiliate, Boy Scout Troop 190, 4,200 cans of food were collected and donated to the South Central PA Food Bank in 2000.

Rehabitat

As part of another service project, the Webelos I Rams are collecting items in support of Rehabitat, who visited Pack 190 at the September 2002 pack meeting with their Owls and Red Tailed Hawk.  Rehabitat needs cleaning supplies, such as dishwashing detergent, rubber gloves, paper towels and large heavy duty garbage bags.  They would also like some miscellaneous items such as large bath towels, any size batteries, and rubber back bathroom rugs.  Please bring some of these items to any upcoming pack meeting.

Friends of Scouting

Because of the generosity of our Pack, we raised $2,399.00 for Friends of Scouting in 2002!  WOW!!!

Charitable Donations

Abiding by our pledge to “help other people”, Pack 190 made the following donations in 2000 and 2001:

To an endowment fund for the recently passed father of two former scouts - $50.00.

To St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, site of our monthly pack meetings and Blue and Gold Banquet - $175.00.

An Upper Allen Township family were victims of a recent home fire - $267.

To the First United Methodist Church, site of our annual Pinewood Derby - $100.

To St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, site of our monthly pack meetings - $100.

Ideas for Service Projects

For each of the ideas below, please contact the Cubmaster for full names and telephone numbers.  Thank you!

Kay S. runs the Special Olympics for four (4) counties and could use help in the following areas:

1.  light office work
2.  boy scouts over the age of twelve (12) or adult scouts could assist at meets as timers, huggers, etc...
3.  fundraiser registration
4.  walk-a-thon water stations (occurs during Mother's Day weekend in May)

Kay will provide the schedule for Special Olympic meets.

Kathy E. is the contact for the United Methodist Children's Home volunteers and needs help in the following areas:

1.  The home has clean up twice a year in the fall and spring and could use help raking, landscaping and general clean up.
2.  There are opportunities to "sponsor" a child at the home and invite them along on your family outings and special days.
3.  The cottages are organized by age group and generally have five to eight kids in a cottage.  Your group could invite a cottage to one of your activities or visit a cottage for a special dinner, game night or activity.
