3. What Makes America Special? (Achievement 3c, 3d) Mechanicsburg Museum Association - Tour the Mechanicsburg Museum Association library and museum. Call 732-3821 for more details. The association (697-6088) also offers an historical tour of Mechanicsburg (a different tour than the tour made by fourth graders).
5. Sharing Your World With Wildlife (Achievement 5b, 5c, 5d) Wildwood Lake Sanctuary - A great place to do many of the nature activities for your den. The Olewine Nature Center offers a program geared specifically to achievement 5a, b, c, d, e. The cost is about $9 per scout (make and take home a birdhouse) or $2 per scout (no birdhouse). Call 221-0292 at least 3 weeks in advance to register or for more information. Pinchot Park - During the summer, a variety of programs are offered, day and evening. Call 432-5011 for more details. The park is open Tuesday to Saturday, from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Programs for scout dens will be arranged during these hours. Scout Day is usually held on a Saturday in October. Call the park for more information. Kings Gap - Scout Day is usually held on a Saturday in October and also a Saturday in April. Environmental education specialists can set up individual programs for dens during the week and weekends. Call 486-5031 for more details. Build a birdfeeder - A local woodworker in Mechanicsburg, provides wood shop equipment at his home for scout projects. He will provide the materials at a nominal charge of $2 per scout. Den Leaders should provide extra adults, cordless drills and safety goggles. Please contact the Cubmaster to obtain the woodworkers telephone number.
6. Take Care of Your Planet (Achievement 6f) Three Mile Island GPU - TMI will offer a tour of the facility for groups of at least 12 (the bus only holds 25). Tours need to be booked two weeks in advance. The tour lasts about 1 ½ hours. The tour starts in the training center, where visitors are briefed and also view the simulated control room. Next, visitors tour the island by bus, including a walk inside a cooling tower. They offer tours Tuesday through Friday, from 9:30 AM to 2:00 PM. The visitor’s center is open Thursday through Sunday, from 12:00 PM (noon) to 4:30 PM. Call 944-9621 for more details.

17. Information, Please (Achievement 17c) Patriot News - This tour is for fourth graders only. Sentinel - Tour this news company at 457 E. North Street, Carlisle. Call 697-4611 or 240-7103 for more details. It is best to visit when the presses are running at 10:30 AM. Radio - Tour the Dame Media building at 600 Corporate Circle, Harrisburg. Call 540-8800, ext. 293, with one weeks notice. The tour lasts 30 minutes. Tour WWII, 720 AM at 8 W. Main Street, Shiremanstown. Call to schedule a tour at 731-9944. Television - Tour WITF at 1982 Locust Lane, Harrisburg. Call 236-6000, ext. 2945 or 221-2945, to talk to someone in Communications. Tour the television studio, control room and the radio station if you want. Tour UPN 15, Channel 21 WHP, WLYH, at 3300 N. 6th Street, Harrisburg. Call 238-2100, ext. 220 for more details. Tours last 30 to 45 minutes. Tour the newsroom, studio, master control room, etc..

21. Build a Model (Achievement 21) The free Make and Take Modeling Program is designed to introduce young people to the art and hobby of model building. Each child is given a small plastic model that they can build with the help of an instructor. The model is theirs to keep. The program is open to boys five to fourteen. 23. Sports, Sports, Sports (Achievement 23e) The Pack usually goes to a Harrisburg Heat or a
Hershey Bears game in the spring.
Planetarium at State Museum (Elective 1c): There is not specific cub scout program. Tours are available on Tuesday through Saturday, from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM and Sunday, 12:00 PM (noon) to 5:00 PM. The cost is $2 per adult and $1.50 for children 12 years old and under. For groups over 20 persons call 772-6997 or 705-4387.
Archery (Elective 20a): Scouts can only satisfy the archery requirements at an approved camp, such as Hidden Valley.
