Fort Dodge Tecmo Bowl League Legendary Games, Fantastic Finishes, Monumental Moments, Bitter Rivals, Crucial Games, and Classic Re-matches. This chronicles the best games, and most amazing moments in what is now know as “The Championship Era” of Tecmo Bowl. Game #1 CLE(B) @ SF(N) - The first ever 2-player bizzaro game, turned out to be rather anti climactic. SF torched the CLE D repeatedly, and even managed to turn the ball over a couple times and still blow out CLE 17-0. CLE had a semi chip shot FG blocked by Charles Haley and turned the ball over on downs in another possession in SF territory. Game #8 CHI(B) @ SF(N) - In a back and forth game, Tillman got a huge return to open the game deep into CHI territory, and SF scored soon afterward. CHI came back with Anderson running to a 13-7 lead(missed a pat). Tillman then got a KR TD, put SF up 14-13 lead. CHI countered with another TD late in the 4th to take a 6 point lead, but Tillman took the KR deep into CHI territory where SF quickly scored. With just a few seconds left on the clock, Singletary blocked the pat to keep the score tied. In the O.T. period, CHI marched down the field thanks to Anderson’s running and got the TD, to win 27-20 Game #11 SEA(B) @ NYG(N) - This will forever go down as the original “Punt-Sack” game. NYG scores a TD late 3rd for a commanding 14-6 lead. Jefferson takes a KR deep into NYG land and SEA gets a TD. NYG stalls and goes to punt midway thru the 4th. Nate lets the meter cycle thru a few times trying to eat clock, but a miraculous diver tackles Landeta, and SEA takes over around the NYG 40. A mad drive later and SEA takes an improbable 20-14 lead. Meggett however gets some key blocks during the KR on his way to the house, leaving just a few ticks on the clock. Game Over! NYG wins 21-20 Game # 20 DAL(B) @ LA(N) - Nate proclaims that he can crush DAL with anyone but WSH. A great defensive stand all game, and 2…count em…2 Dixon KR TD’s and DAL cruises 24-6. First time I have ever saw a guy return it to the house twice in a game, in Bizzaro or regular Tecmo Bowl. Game # 26 SF(N) @ DEN(B) - SF goes on a pick pass 1 crusade most of the first half and gets a 14-0 lead at the break. SF starts the 3rd qtr with a drive taking 1:15 ! off the clock, (probably the longest drive ever in a Tecmo game) and settles for a fg and a 17-0 lead. DEN scores a TD afterwards but can’t do anymore. 17-7. DEN’s first loss in Bizzaro and the last team to be beaten. Game # 37 MIN(B) @ NYG(N) - This might go down as one of the most rugged “battle of field position attrition” games ever. NYG starts pinned deep and both teams traded punts for the remainder of the half. Landeta’s Bombs slowly swayed position in NYG’s favor, as Scribner has a much weaker leg. Thanks to slowly gaining field position thru punts, NYG is close to FG range but cant move the ball, and the half ends. This trend continued in the 2nd half after MIN moved the ball a ways and pinned NYG deep. However just as NYG started to sway the tide in the 4th, turnovers did them in and MIN won going away 14-0. Game # 38 CHI(B) @ SF(N) - This has turned out to be the top-heavy weight fight in Bizzaro. Both teams traded blows like usual, and Singletary got a pat block (like he always does vs SF) to preserve a small 14-13 lead. A determined drive in the 4th, fueled by Neal Anderson’s running resulted in a TD and a lead to big to overcome. CHI wins 21-13. Game # 44 WSH(B) @ NYG(N) - This game kicks off Season 2 for us, and WSH comes in a big under dog. 26 combined play picks, 4 NYG turnovers, along with a short field all game and WSH cruises 21-2. Game # 48 MIN(B) @ LA(N) - Bo and company explodes out to a 14-0 lead in the 2nd qtr. A Leo Lewis kick return inside the LA 20 late in the half looks promising, but Howie Long gets an INT to preserve the lead. MIN then starts the 3rd with an excellent drive and gets 7, followed by a Studwell INT and 7 more, resulting in a 14 point 3rd qtr! After a LA FG, MIN gets into FG range late in the 4th but Long snags another INT to win the game 17-14. Game # 50 DAL(N) @ MIA(B) - The 50th game of Bizzaro provided a few fire works. DAL hung tough thanks to a long drive for a TD, then a Dixon return inside the MIA 30 to get a FG just as the 1st half expired, and only trailed 10-9. However in the 2nd half, Aikman tossed a couple INT’s and MIA rolled 24-9. Game # 51 SEA(B) @ CLE(N) - This game featured an all time classic finish. With CLE trailing by 6 late in the 4th, Kosar engineered a long drive using quick pass plays. Down inside the red-zone, Kosar hit Slaughter for a quick pass, and he rapidly pulled away from the defender, but for fear of being caught from behind, he ran out of bounds with 1 second left just inside the 5. Looked questionable, cause as he turned up field it looked like he was gone for the TD. On the last play of the game, SEA play picked CLE and nullified the TD pass. SEA wins by a hair 13-7. Game # 54 CHI(B) @ SF(N) - Standard stuff from these guys….a back and forth battle that featured 2 Singletary pat blocks, and SF hits a FG in the 4th for a 1 point lead. With little time remaining, CHI gets into what should be FG range, but Charles Haley comes thru and blocks the kick for the win at the gun….SF takes it 15-14. Game # 58 CHI(N) @ DAL(N) - The “Al Michaels game”! DAL comes in as a huge dog yet plays inspired defense, and uses tricky play calls on offense to stick around. An all around awesome underdog performance! Inside the CHI 10 and facing 4th and short, trailing early in the 4th DAL kicks a FG to pull within 1. DAL had all the momentum and things looked bad for CHI with a lot of time left, but Green saves the day and takes the kick to the house for the 14-6 win. Nate kept saying during the game “you gotta believe in miracles”. Game # 59 SF(N) @ SEA(B) - SF easily rolls to a 14-0 halftime lead and gets the ball to start the 2nd half. What lie ahead was one of the most masterful defensive efforts in Tecmo History. SF goes in the tank with a dry run for the rest of the game on their next 5 possessions and SEA ties it up early in the 4th thanks to an INT. In O.T. SEA wins the toss and they trade punts until SEA converts a 4th and 1 from around their 40-yard line. After that, the spirit of SF gets crushed and eventually SEA gets in for the TD and a 21-14 win. Largest come from behind win in Bizzaro! Game # 61 NYG(B) @ LA(N) - Lots of great stuff happening in a short span is always good for Tecmo. This marks the 1st Bo vs LT game in Bizzaro, and Bo gets the better of LT, juking him to no end and just making him look plain silly!?!?. After allowing an early TD, NYG gets a couple FG’s to tie, and then late in the 4th LT gets an INT and Allegre kicks the game winner. Bo won the battle, but LT won the war 9-6. |
