Pronounced 'Yool', this is the shortest day of the year and a time when the birth of new promise and hope is celebrated. From here the days will henceforth begin to lengthen. This day is sacred to all infant Sun Gods - Baldur, Shamash, Apollo, Horus and Bel as well as the Horned God. The Great Mother has given the world a precious gift, her newborn Sun. We give gifts to family and friends during this time of new idea, projects, hopes and dreams.
Decorating trees is a symbol of life continuing through the bleakness of winter, evergreens and mistletoe are sacred to Yule, so are ivy and holly.
Yule is also known as the Winter Solstice and is celebrated around December 20-23 in the Northen Hemisphere, and between June 20-23 in the Southern.
Colours that are special to this time are green, white, red and gold.
