The Summer Solstice, the longest day of the year and a time of fulfillment. A sacred day to many ancient peoples, it has been marked by the alignment of the sun and the stones at Stonehenge, the observatories of the Sumerians and the medicine wheels of the Plains Tribes in North America.
The Sun is at it's full strength, however is can not last and diminishes, but it is not destroyed. The Sun's energy remains in the crops, the ripening fruits, grains and vegetables.
This festival marks triumph and mourning. We can see and sahre the radience of the Sun, yet know that it must fade as the summer wanes.
Pronounced 'LEE-tha' this holiday is celebrated between June 20-23 in the Northern Hemisphere, and December 20-23 in the Southern.
Sacred colours of this festival are green and gold.
