Pronounced 'LOO-nus-uh' and also known as Lammas, this festival marks the shortening of days and the first harvest. Lugnassad is an ancient Celtic fire festival, named after the Solar God Lugh.
This is a time of sacrifice, when Lugh has used the last of His energy to bring forth a bountiful harvest. The first fruits were offered to the Earth Goddess in thanks.
The death of the Corn King is mourned, but also honored, foir through His selfless sacrifice, the corn could be made into flour and bread, to be stored for the winter.
August 1 marks the date for this festival, as does February 2 for those in the Southern Hemisphere.
Use the colours yellow and dark green at this time.
