A traditaional greeting and blessing used by witches.

CASTING
Sonts, cards, sticks or other objects are cast onto the ground in a designated area, or onto a special cloth so that insight into life patterns can be revealed, a form of divination.
CASTING THE CIRCLE
A psychic sphere of energy is cast to ward off unwanted ifluences and distractions, as well as to focus power.

A cooking pot used to heat herbal healing preparations for rituals.
CHANTING
Used in rituals, he harmonious vocalization of phrases, names and words to attune oneself, celebrate success, raise energy and to become centred.

CHARGE OF THE GOD
The words spoken by the God through the person who preforms the Drawing down of the Sun ritual.
CHARGE OF THE GODDESS
The words spoken by the Goddess through the individual who preforms the Drawing down the Moon ritual.
CHALICE
One of the Elemental tools representing water, also called a cup.
CHARM
Magical word/s or object that can be used for protection.
CIRCLE
A sacred space, when the Circle is cast, it is usually thought of as a sphere of energy.
CONSECRATION
Solemnly devote or dedicate someone or something to a sacred purpose, to protect and cleanse.
COVEN
Congregation of witches who gather regularly to work together to perform magic rituals and celebrate their faith.
CRAFT, THE
A popular shortened name for Witchcraft.
DEOSIL
A clockwise circular movement used in casting and banishing spells. In the Northern Hemisphere circles are usually cast this way to match the movement of the sun through the sky. In the Southern Hemisphere, this direction is usually used in closing a circle.
DIVINATION
The practise of foreseeing future trends by using tools such as runes and the Tarot, very useful in witchcraft.
DRAWING DOWN THE MOON
A ritual to channel or bring down the higher feminine energy into the individual.
DRAWING DOWN THE SUN
A ritual to channel or bring down the higher masculine energy into the individual.
ELEMENT
Earth, Air, Fire and Water represent a calss of energies within the universe. These elements are referred to, and called upon during rituals.
ESBAT
A meeting or ritual conducted at the time of the full moon.
EVOKE
To summon psychic energy from within your own psyche or a spirit.
FAMILIAR
Term used to animal companions, they are either used as a mascot or trained to assist in magic.
GARDNERIANS
Wiccans initiated by Gerald Gardner or stemming from those initiated by him.
GRIMOIRE
A book of magical techniques and spells, designed as a guide for the spell caster.
GROUNDING
To psychically reinforce your connection with the Earth by opening an energy channel between yourself and the grouns.
HEALING
One of the ultimate outcomes of ritual work, and may be accomplished by visualisation, specifc spells, crystal work, or laying your hands upon the "patient". One must have the '"patient's" permission first.
HIGH PRIEST
The male leader in a group working.

The female leader in a group working.
IMBOLC
One of the four Major Sabbats.
INITIATION
When one is welcomed as a member of a coven or particular group also used to describe the spiritual experience which occurs when one's unity with the Universe and Deity is realised.

Words repeated aloud when casting a spell.

TO summon energy or a spirit form into oneself

LITHA
The Summer Solstice
LUNAR CYCLE
When the visiable phase of the moon waxes from dark to full and wanes to dark again.
MABON
The Autumn or Fall Equinox.
MEDITATION
A disciplined and focused form of reflection or contemplation whereby one's emotional state is altered.
NECROMANCY
Summoning spirits of the dead to do as the summoner wishes.
OSTARA
The Spring Equinox.
PAGAN
A general tern used for people who do not follow a mainstream religion, usually with beliefs involving nature.
PENTACLE
An important Elemental tool, symbolising Earth, made of clay or metal. It can also be worn for protection.
PENTAGRAM
A five-pointed star-shaped figure of ancient origin that is used ceremonially to protect and bless. Used with one tip facing upwards (meaning life, if the point faces downwards it means death and is a symbol of Satanism), the points represent the four Elements and the Spirit.
POWER ANIMAL
Either an animal or an imagined animal with specific psychic attributes or protective qualities.
QUARTERS
An abbreviated or alternative term for the four Elmental powers and the directions they each correspond to.
RITUAL
A Co-ordinated series of events which lead to the accomplishment of a goal through means of witchcraft and magic.
SABBAT
Eight season festivals during the year.
SACRED SPACE
Refers to an area enclosed when the circle is cast.
SAMHAIN
One of the four Major Sabbats.
SCRYING
The art of divining by gazing into a reflective surface.
SHAPESHIFTER
Someoen with the ability to change their shape at will, it can changing the actual shape or just the way people percieve one.
SIGIL
Incorporating a form of magical energy is what this speical sign does.
SKYCLAD
Meaning naked, coming from an Indian term "clad by the sky."
SO MOTE IT BE
The Pagan equivalent of "AMEN."
TALISMAN
Objects imbued with supernatural or magical powers which transmit them to their owners
TRIPLE GODDESS
The three faces of the Goddess, Maiden, Mother and Crone.
VISUALISATION
Important in ritual, ne must be able to visualise or imagine their goal or the outcome they desire before working magic. The goal obtains power in your mind and aids in charging the spells.
WAND
An important Elemental tool representing Fire.
WARD
To spiritually protect something or someeone with energy, usually preformed prior to a ritual.
WICCA
An Old English name for the practise of Witchcraft.
WICCAN
An individual who practises Witchcraft.

The highest point of the sun or moon in the sky.
