AOL INTERNET HELP

When I try to access the internet, I get an error that says: "Cannot Open Site". Why?

Try one of the following:

  • You might have the wrong URL. Try retyping it
  • Shorten the URL to a higher directory. In other words, if the URL is http://www.anywhere.com/faq/help.html, try eliminating the help.html.
  • Then eliminate the /faq if it still fails. (sometimes sites change file names, though the address stays the same.)
  • The server might be down. Try later on.
  • If you cannot access ANY site, try signing offline and then back on again.
  • If that fails, try shutting your system totally down and restarting.
  • Still no go? If you have Windows 95 or 98, click Start, Settings, Control Panel, Network...select the AOL adapter by highlighting it, and click Remove. Let your system restart.
  • Last resort: reinstall your AOL software.

Files I've downloaded off the internet have the extension ".art"?

To prevent files from being saved as ".art" files, click on Members, Preferences, WWW, and select "Uncompressed Graphics". They should now save in their original format.

When accessing the web I get a Content Advisor error?

Click Members on the top of your AOL screen, then Preferences, WWW. Click the Security Tab, Then select Disable Ratings. If you are then asked for a password, press Enter instead.
