If you are a physician in Uganda, and you are interested in
applying to the Masters Program in Community Practice, then follow these
steps:
1. Make sure you meet the following
requirements:
a) you have
completed medical school, and internship
b) you have
completed at least 2 years of clinical practice after internship
2. Contact us and ask how to apply: ( click
here to contact any of our staff )
Here is a time line that the application process
follows:
January - June: prepare to apply by doing the following
things:
a) obtain a blank
application to Makerere University from the Makerere School of
Postgraduate Studies
(phone number = 041-530-983, or call the Makerere University main
number at 041-532-631)
b) talk with your
employer (such your DDHS) for a letter of support.
(This support is needed if you desire to receive an income while enrolled
in the M.Med program)
c) contact the
Department of Community Practice to inform them of your interest in
applying.
d) begin to think
about funding sources for Makerere University sponsorship.
(If you do not receive sponsorship, then you will likely have to pay the
Makerere University's school fees
yourself. The Ministry of Health has offered as many as 10 sponsorships
in a single year, but the exact number
of sponsorships can change from year to year).
July: submit your application to the School of Postgraduate Studies
at Makerere University.
August: Makerere University decides which applicants to accept to
the M.Med program.
August: After an applicant is accepted by Makerere University,
he/she can contact the Ministry of Health (in particular the Commissioner
of Clinical Services at 041-231-576) to see if the Ministry of Health can
offer sponsorship.
September: the masters program begins in the end of September
Notes:
1. this time line is just an approximation. It may be a good
idea to start the application process even before January.
2. this time line is based on the knowledge of a visiting lecturer
to the Department of Community Practice, and this is NOT an official
application process described by Makerere University. It is probably
a good idea to contact staff currently working in the department, as well
as current students enrolled in the M.Med program to get their advice
about how the application process works.
