         in the mighty tree
         we cannot touch the heart
but its soul bleeds through the skin
         and touches us

For CAB2000, Toronto's first
Community Arts Biennale,
artist Laurie Kallis and the
members of Communitree
have collaborated on a series
of prints which provide a
handprint of the trees that
Communitree has endeavoured
to protect. Tree mapping, the
exhibition of these prints in the
second and third floor Galleria
space of the Living Arts Centre,
coincides with the introduction
of a Pilot tree protection bylaw
within the city of Mississauga.

CAB2000, an umbrella initiative
of A Space Gallery, Canada's
oldest multi-disciplinary
artist-run centres, brings
together artists, activists and
communities in a celebration
of collaboration that reinforces
the role of the Arts in giving a
distinct, strong voice to cultural
experience. Visit the CAB2000
website for more information
regarding CAB2000.

    Please join us for our

 Memories . . . . .

August 12, 1998 Summer Social
A weekday evening event held to introduce the neighbourhood to the Gordon House, the tree by-law issue and to acquaint community environmental and heritage groups with each other and community members.

August 27,  1998 Community Lawn
and Garden Sale
What ? No picture?
We must have sold it!
What a way to bring people in. 25 vendors drew crowds. Hundreds of people signed our petitions and learned about the issues.  This event was such a success we held another one two weeks later, and met a comedian shopping for props who  we convinced to play MC at our coming Tree Festival !

September 18, 1998 The Lorax is here!
A staged media event held to introduce the doomed trees growing beside the Wilcox Inn, on Front street, to the media & garner some press coverage to bring more people to the Tree Festival - coincidently held the next day at the same location.

September 19, 1998 The Port Credit
Tree Festival
A community event to remember.

Hundreds of people attended to enjoy the food, music, artisans and children's events.  Even Smokey the Bear showed up - although it seemed that only the older visitors could remember him!

October 5, 1998 Tree Ribbons on
Mississauga Road
Just where did all those ribbons come from? and why?
