THE  PORT  CREDIT  T R E E  FESTIVAL

The folks from the Wilcox Inn, Louie and Tammy and Paula joined forces with Communitree to create the Port Credit Tree Festival. We hope it will grow to become an annual event.

Paulo, Utterly Sputter, the X band and special local guests provided music throughout the afternoon.

A comedian master of ceremonies - who we met at the Gordon House Community lawn sale the week before - and convinced to help us out - kept the stage lively as we struggled with technical stuff.  He even managed to keep it clean as he looked out over an audience made up of a broad range of ages and cultures.

Barbecue foods, henna tattoos, Smokey the Bear, artists, jewellery, crafts, the Lorax, ribbons, and Tree Festival T-shirts filled the edges of the closed street, people hovered around eating, drinking and enjoying themselves. Hundreds of people signed our petition supporting a tree protection bylaw.

Huge white ribbons encircled Oden the grandfather Silver Maple destined to be cut down and the three smaller maples that shared the same fate.  Shocked locals learned of the plans to remove the trees and climbed the grassy hill to stand under their canopy, circle their trunks, feel the flaky, rust coloured bark.

Everyone left the festival with a length of ribbon to tie around their favourite tree to show they support a tree protection bylaw in Mississauga.
