Then ...
Oh! Baby! Oh!
How my business did grow!
Now, chopping one tree
at a time
was too slow.

A CFTO cameraman films a
circle of people who join hands
around Oden's massive girth.

It took all of the eight people
present to comfortably wrap
their arms around Oden. His
magnitude dwarfed us.

During the late night, early morning hours of August 18th., we faxed a press release to the local newspapers and television stations telling them that the Lorax was returning. He was destined for a tree in Mississauga. After climbing into a costume finished the night before, the Lorax climbed a ladder and perched high in the branches of Oden, the Silver Maple at the Wilcox Inn and waited for the media.

They came: CFTO news, the Mississauga News and the Medium from Erindale College. More importantly neighbours came and children saw the Lorax, right there, close to their own backyards. My first trip into Oden just hinted at the experiences yet to come. At this point the reality of the trees' coming demise hadn't really settled in yet and we still had fun. Birds and squirrels didn't know what to make of this strange orange beast sharing their  home !
