| These wings were made for flying...do they come with a guarantee? | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Do you think birds' wings get tired? I mean, if I was flapping my arms for a while and fast enough to keep me in the air I know they would get tired and I would feel like they were gonna fall off. So what happens to birds? Would they start to think that their wings were going to fall off, that they couldn't flap even once more? I'm curious. I wish I could read a bird's mind. Now you're probably wondering how I got on this topic, why in the first place am even thinking if a bird gets tired of flying and honestly, it's not like I just sit around thinking up these weird things...well okay, sometimes I do, but not today. Actually, I was looking out the window staring off into space as I have been known to do more often than I breath:) and in the overcast sky a bird swooping up and down came into view. I watched for a while this bird seeming to struggle to get where it was going, fighting a continual battle to fly up and then a short pause to just glide down a ways and then up again. After a few cycles of this the bird turned towards a telephone pole and alighted on the top. And it just got me wondering if maybe the bird was tired and needed a break from slicing the air. So seriously, do you think birds get tired from flying? I know birds' wings are designed specifically for flying and flying to them would be like walking to us. We've been doing it since we were babies and we can walk a long time before we think we're going to collapse from exhaustion and the more you walk the longer you can last, which, I assume, would be the same with flying. But when walking we also have the continual contact with the ground, we don't have to keep ourselves above the ground, supporting our full weight with our might alone and nothing below us. Of course, there is the wind and the pockets of air that birds fly through that help them along and propel them, but still. And with walking we can stop at any second, we can just not take another step and the lack of movement won't cause us to crash...though it may not be the best idea to test this in the middle of a busy highway...but if a bird just simply stops flapping eventually their glide will end and they will plummet to the earth or into the ocean, wherever they happen to be flying at the time of sheer exhaustion. How could a bird not grow tired from flying they constantly battle gravity, storms, turbulence (hmm, maybe). I just can't see how a bird could go through all that and fly for who knows how long without a break on a tree top or telephone pole. And, on a slight tangent, how do birds know where they are going? Flying so high, flying above clouds, flying through fog, how do they keep directions straight? The females must always lead the way cause certainly the males wouldn't ask for directions if they got lost, haha. Birds must be a lot smarter than people give them credit for, in fact they are probably smarter than some of the people I know, at times at least. They may have a pea brain but in proportion to their bodies wouldn't it be about the same size as a human brain in proportion to our bodies? I'm gonna take a risk here and say that in general birds are smarter than humankind. Now before you disagree let me explain...since I'm also grouped with humankind I can't say that, putting myself down at the same time, and not have a reason. So birds in general are smarter than humankind. Explanation. When was the last time a bird attacked a flock of it's fellow birds, killing some and harming others? When was the last time a Robin was chased away from a lawn by a bunch of other birds because it had a red breast and was therefore different? What I'm trying to say is, if we were the smart ones, we were the superior beings then why are we the ones hurting each other and destroying the world? Shouldn't we know better? Killing isn't going to get us somewhere, beating each other isn't going to get us anywhere, we can't even live civially as neighbors without conflicts and critism. If only we could collectively take lessons from birds and other such nobel creatures perhaps someday we could actually live up to our beliefs of superiority. Just to get myself out a hole I think I am digging myself into with that I just want to say that I know for a fact a number of people who do know better and are upright citizens who are great examples of what humankind is capable of. Some people in their own rights are superior to the birds and the bees and probably even E.T., but in just bunching together humankind those people seem to be over ridden and blackedout by the few or not so few considering that there are five billion plus people here, but by the minority of people that do such horrorable and inconceivable things that gives humankind a bad name and on occasion makes wish I had wings so I could fly alongside the birds. And if not to fly with the birds I just want wings so I could fly where I want...hmm, any guesses where that might be! Speaking of food, no wait I wasn't talkin' about food. Guess that just got me thinking about something nourishing and tasty that I want, hehe. But anyway, now that I'm speaking of something to eat, I hear my stomach talking to me which I guess for now I will just have to satisfy with something from the fridge:( Someday I'll get those wings so I can fly. |
