Kongzi
(551 B.C. - 479 B.C.) was born in in Changping Country of the Lu State. His name
was Qiu and styled Zhongni.
Confucius,
a Latinised reference to Kong Fu-Tze (Kongzi), which
means the Great Teacher Kong, the philosopher who propagated
Confucianism as a way of learning to be a human and understanding
the relations between self, society, state and nature. It came into
English language through Latin, and translated by Matteo Ricci when
he visited China to try to preach the Catholic gospel in the 17th
century.
However, Confucianism is perhaps one of the most
widespread Chinese school of thoughts that has gone beyond the
Chinese border and generated interest in multi-disciplinary studies
ranging from history to economics.
