MEGLITINIDE AGENTS

Mechanism of action: it is a potent potassium-channel blocker; it binds to the K-receptors on the beta cells in the pancreas and closes the ATP-dependent potassium channels.

Major side effects: perspiration, headache, palpitations, numbness of the mouth, tingling in the fingers, tremors, muscle weakness, blurred vision, hypothermia, uncontrolled yawning, irritability, mental confusion, sinus tachycardia, shallow breathing, and loss of consciousness.
