Eating Right:
  • eat a variety of foods every day
  • eat foods high in fiber--fruits, vegetables, grains, and beans
  • eat less foods that contain large amounts of fats, cholesterol, sugar, and salt
The American Diabetes Association Recommends:
  • 6 or more servings of grains, beans, and starchy vegetables
  • 3-5 servings of vegtables
  • 2-4 servings of fruits
  • 2-3 servings of milk
  • 2-3 servings of meat
  • and less than 1 serving of fats, sweets, and alcohol
Simple Changes in Your Eating Habits:
  • eat meals and snacks at set times during the day
  • do not skip meals
  • eat the same amount of food every day
  • reduce the size of portions at each meal
