BIGUANIDE AGENTS

Mechanism of action: has two-fold mechanisms; it enhances peripheral muscle glucose uptake and utilization and inhibits glucose release from the liver.

Major side effects: GI intolerance, anorexia, epigastric fullness, photosensitivity, dyspepsia, and dysgeusia (metallic taste).
