We continued to explore Istanbul, by visiting the Ottoman Topkapi Palace. We were greeted by the palace guards who stood like mannequins. This was a city-palace which had a population of approximately 4,000 people. To feed all the inhabitants there were many kitchens with big dome-like chimneys. This palace was made into a museum in 1924.

In the afternoon we wandered through the Egyptian Spice Market. Jerry and I were more interested in visiting the small but beautiful mosque next to the Spice Market. Thanks to more daylight coming through the windows, pictures I took here show the blue tiles much better.
These school children did not know that I was an American, and greeted me with "Sayonara", "Tokyo", etc.
After dinner on our own, the group convened to cruise up the Bosphorus Straits. While waiting for our boat, we were served hot Turkish tea. Throughout the day Turkish people sip tea in a tiny, cute glass cup. On board, we enjoyed viewing more palaces, expensive homes, local people fishing, the military high school, and yes, the train station where well end up tonight to take a night train to Ankara. We saw a dog on a little boat for the first time since we arrived in Turkey and wondered how our poor dog was doing at the kennel.
