The Mearomot
Many runecasters place another smaller cloth on the
larger ceremonial rune cloth at the positive end.
On this smaller cloth you can place your "mearomot,"
or personal talisman. Made of silk, hemp, burlap,
linen, cotton, or other natural fabric, the mearomot
is a pouch containing a crystal, feather, picture,
and other objects you choose with which you have a
sacred connection. Write the question of the runecasting
on a piece of paper. The paper accompanies the mearomot
and is placed underneath the pouch on the smaller white
cloth; you can simply cast the runes onto the larger
ceremonial cloth in front of you. When you become more
adept at runecasting, though, you will most likely find
the smaller cloth of greater value, because it allows
you to focus more effectively on the runecast.
Decorating The Mearomot
The smaller ceremonial cloth has specific symbols on
it, and again usually measures nine inches (22.5 cm)
square. One way of decorating it is to draw three circles
on it representing past, present, and future, and the four
directional points of north, east, south, and west.
Another more traditional way to decorate the smaller cloth
is either to visualize or draw the Nine Worlds upon it. In
Norse Mythology, when Odin, Vili, and Ve sacrificed Ymir,
they arranged his remains to create the Nine Worlds. This
brought about cosmic order and manifestation. Yggdrasil,
the World Tree, wupported the Nine Worlds, which contained
countless dwellings and homes. Between and among these worlds
were found the runes, their secrets, and their pathways. You

A more contemporary method for embellishing your smaller
rune cloth, based on Jungian psychology, is called Three Levels
of Consciousness. In Norse Mythology, creation originated from
two primal forces: fire and ice (frost). The interaction of
these forces is what resulted in the formation of the Nine
Worlds. The Nine Worlds may then be divided into three levels
of consciousness. You may want to use this picture
