Eight-Point Rune reading Checklist
1)Whenever you seek divine guidance, expect (have faith)
that it will be provided and that its intent will
be for your greatest good.
2)Find a quiet spot suitable for readings, a place
where you will not be disturbed. before you begin,
clear out any negative energy from the space, and
then gather all the materials you will need: casting
cloth, runes or rune cards, a cushion to sit on,
and so forth.
3)Get into a receptive state of mind, calling in any
divine powers that you connect with. When doing this,
sit facing north, the direction of the ancestors and
deities in Norse mythology.
4)Take your time carefully forming a question in your
mind. It's crucial that you do not change the question
midway through the reading. The question needs to be
something that you really want an answer to. The greater
your desire and curiosity, the better for the divination.
Ask your question clearly and simply. You can do this
aloud or silently. When doing personal divination, it's
a good idea to write the question down, placing it next
to the casting cloth for reference. I keep a rune journal,
a notebook that I write down my questions, the date, the
rune pulled, and the layout used, along with any feelings
I get during the reading. This is useful to refer to later
on.
5)Once the question is firmly fixed in your mind, begin to
gently mix the runes. Keep your attention focused on the
question the entire time you mix the runes, almost as if
placing the question into the runes themselves.
6)Continue to mix the runes until you feel compelled to take
up certain runes or rune cards. Continue to stir and pull
runes out until you have the correct number in front of you
for the layout you are using. Generally you lay the runes out
in a horizontal row, facedown, in front of you, from left to
right in the order they were pulled.
7)Take the runes, one by one, in order, and place them in
their proper positions in the layout, turning them faceup
as you do so and reading their meanings. Think about how
you can use the information within these runes to create
positive ways to deal with upcoming events.
8)When you finish with the reading, give thanks in your
own way for the guidance and information given.
