The Story of 'The Potential'

The year is 1960, in a barren desert in Africa, a team of archeologists come upon an amazing discovery.  They find a fossil of a creature who has been buried beneath these sands for millions of years.  However, upon classification of the fossil, the scientists discover that they have unearthed a new species with a type of DNA never before seen...

Flash forward to the present.  Three teenagers living out their seemingly normal lives will suddenly learn that their lives are anything but.  Thrown into a conspiracy too large for them to comprehend, they must figure out what is going on while trying to keep themselves alive.  And the only way to do this is to depend on each other and each other's unique talents.   But they are about to learn that this will be no easy task, and that they were raised with a much higher purpose in life than what they have expected.

The History of 'The Potential'

The idea for The Potential was actually thought up while I was in high school, during my physics class.  Nerdy, ain't I?  Yea, yea, anyways, while thinking about physics, I came to the conclusion that if there was a person who could control physics, he would be unstoppable.  I mean, think about it.  The guy can control FORCES!  So he could basically do anything he wants since everything in this world relies on forces one way or another.  Plus, he could control electricity, magnetism, etc, etc.  Basically everything in the world.  Okay, I probably sounded really stupid there.  Heh...  I was bored, okay?  Anyway, I called this guy PHYSICS MAN!  Good name, isn't it?  I know it is!  /End Sarcasm.  So being the little dork I was, whenever I was bored, I'd make up adventures for this kid with physics powers to go on.  But soon I got bored because, well, nobody could stop him!  I even came up with this tite idea how he could form a barrier of forces around his hand an then make his hand catch on fire.  It was dope sauce.  But he was too strong, so I decided to create another science dude.  He was called.. duh duh duhhh!!!.. Chem Man!!!  Physics vs chemistry... Isn't that great?  Of course it is.  I though physics could beat out chem any day, but my friends thought that chem was better because he could control atoms and stuff.  Don't we sound like a fun loving group of friends?!

Anyway, I graduated high school and went to college in the year 2000.  And with the worries of my major, I didn't have too much time to think about my physics and chem dudes.  But of course they were still lingering in the back of my head, waiting to return. And guess what?  They did!  My buddy (we'll call him J) decided to introduce me into the world of comics by telling me to buy Ultimate X-men and Ultimate Spider-man.  So I did, and they were TITE!  Haha!  So now I'm hooked on comix, and guess what?  I find a guy at school who liked comics too!  Yes... two comic geeks sharking comic stories, fun isn't it?  So anyway, one day after we went to a comic show, I told him about physics man  and he suggested that I make these characters into a comic book.  Haha.  It was all just for fun though.  We said we would get Michael Turner to draw the book and make the characters look all sexy and stuff (like Witchblade and Fathom... *drool*).  Don't I sound like a freak?  Well, I am.  Anyway, that summer I was bored as heck cuz I was retaking this class I already took and for some reason it seemed super easy this time around (though for some reason I got a D- the first time I took it...).  So every day when I was done with my homework I had nothing to do but play my friend's Dreamcast, and the only game I was interested in was Marvel vs Capcom 2.  So I played that for a while, but after I beat it like a gajillion times, I decided to stop.  Then one day I was so bored that I decided to write the story of physics man and his science pals.  Guess what it was called at first?  SP... standing for "Science Powers".  Bwahaha!  But it didn't really matter cuz I was just writing if for fun.  This was what was to become the backbone of the comic.  The rough script was about five pages long, but during the summer, I refined it to become about twice that length.  And whaddaya know?  I thought the script was pretty tite, so I decided I might as well try to publish the thing.  There was one problem, though.  I had no artist to draw my work.  It was solved when I asked my friend, Jonathan Huang, to do the art.  I had been a long time admirer of Jon's work and when he accepted, I  was extremely happy.  I mean, this guy can really DRAW!  AND he can sculpt, color, paint, whatever!  He is a true master of the arts.  And so, after many set backs (due to a hectic school/work schedule), the first issue of 'The Potential' was completed and ready to hit the presses.  Though because of a low budget (we're college students!), we will were forced to print only a limited amount of each issue, but hopefully, it will become more widespread through the wonder of the internet.  And of course, with the help of you!  So buy an issue already!
