Sonic Adventure
Intro:
When Sega launched the Dreamcast, they had their mascot leading as the flagship title for the console. Sonic Adventure was the first mainstream Sonic game since the Saturn years, and there had been quite a few changes since then. Apart from the obvious leap in graphics, all the characters had slightly changed (or in some cases more pronounced) redesigns - for example, Sonic now had green eyes and an overall sleeker design.
Story:
In ancient times, a race of echidnas called the Knuckles tribe discovered mysterious gems called the Chaos Emeralds. Despite warnings, leaders of the tribe pushed for their infinite power to be taken. However, something happened that wiped the entire tribe from history forever. Today, events caused by a certain egg-shaped scientist are causing history to repeat itself...
After exploring the lands for a long time, Sonic turned up at the bustling city of Station Square, looking for a relaxing vacation. However, on his arrival, he noticed some police cars speeding off somewhere. Never one to leave an exciting situation, Sonic chased after them. A water monster by the name of Chaos was creating havoc, and was immune to the police's weapons. Sonic got ready for a fight, but little did he know of the potential for Chaos' power.
The Game:
Sonic Adventure was a huge leap over previous titles like Sonic R in terms of power and graphics. The game featured old stalwarts Sonic, Tails, Knuckles and Amy, also featuring the dopy but well meaning Big the Cat, and the renegade badnik E-102 Gamma. Every character has their own game style, with Amy being chased her levels by the persistant robot ZERO, Knuckles searching for pieces of the broken Master Emerald, Gamma shooting anything that moves, Big (rather oddly) fishing his way to victory, and Sonic of course blazing through his levels as fast as humanly (or indeed hedgehogly) possible.
The game introduces new A-Life virtual pets 'Chao', little water beings that you raise by giving them the animals that pop out of the badniks during the game. A-Life was originally used in Sonic Team game NiGHTS into Dreams... with little characters called Pians, but Chao are far more advanced, altering in appearence depending on what sort of animals you give them.
The game focuses on new enemy 'Chaos', who gets stronger with each Chaos Emerald he is given. You fight him at several points in the game, in his various forms.
