Chaotix

Knuckles and the Chaotix later realised they had stood in superglue...

Intro:
The ill-fated 32X add on never had a Sonic game to call it's own, but it did have something else - A Knuckles game! Knuckles' Chaotix features Knuckles the Echidna (obviously), Mighty the Armadillo (from SegaSonic the Hedgehog), Espio the Chameleon, Charmy Bee (they're new) and Vector the Crocodile (recycled from a canned idea for the sound test on Sonic the Hedgehog). Also included are Heavy and Bomb, the 'Mechanix'. These two bumbling robots hinder your progress as your partner.

Story:
Strange things are afoot on Angel Island... A few months after the island was grounded (in Sonic & Knuckles), a new island appeared in the Southern Ocean. That's not all... The island became lush and tropical very rapidly.

It turned out that this was all the Master Emerald's doing... Knuckles wondered that if this had anything to do with the ancient civilisation he was descended from? He set out to find out for himself. Also, a group of private investigators called the Chaotix were checking out the mysterious island.

However, Eggman was already there. Investigating the island, he found an engraved ring that indeed came from the ancient echidna tribe. Experimenting on the ring, he created what he called a 'Dark Ring', which emulated the power of the Chaos Rings which resided in a dimension accessible from the island. He built the 'Newtrogic High Zone', a fortress where he planned to obtain the Chaos Rings, which would let him control the vast powers of the Master Emerald. He'd also captured some pesky investigators snooping around. It seemed things were really going his way...

However, when Knuckles arrived on the island, he knew something was up. He soon managed to spring the Chaotix from Eggman's prison, and set out to foil Eggman's nefarious scheme.

The Game:
Knuckles' Chaotix is quite different to your usual Sonic game. While it does have the basic 'run and jump' mechanic and the same style of aesthetics, the actual backbone of the game relies on using two characters at once attached by an elastic band like device.

Each of the characters (save Heavy and Bomb) has their own special abilities. For example, Espio the Chameleon can run on walls and ceilings, Charmy Bee can fly constantly and Vector the Crocodile can climb walls and use a mid air dash (which you can move in different vectors. :b)

The game starts on a hub called the Newtrogic High Zone, which then takes you to other zones, each with 5 stages and a boss at the end. Rather than being a linear progression through the levels, after each stage you randomly move to another level, which could be in another zone. Eventually, you will play all the stages, but it is unlikely you'll do it in any specific order.
