1997-98 Annual Report

Finances

Unfortunately this season our fund-raising programme was not as successful as anticipated resulting in a loss for the season of approximately $1,000 down from a $4,300 surplus last season. The disappointing result was due in part to a lack of members taking the initiative to organise activities and general apathy on behalf of club members in supporting fund-raising activities. It is important to remember that if we are to continue to work towards reducing subs for all members that we need to accumulate reserves during the good years which can then be invested to provide a return that can offset any increases in affiliation fees that are a certainty in the years to come. Our weekly meat raffles at the Springlands Tavern were once again a valuable fund-raising activity.

Once again we have been vigilant in collecting subs resulting in about only $600 in outstanding subs at the end of the season (down from $900 last season), which will have to be paid before those who haven't paid can play for us or anyone else next year.

However the club still has over $2,000.00 invested and a healthy cheque account, but to continue to be financially viable and keep subs down to below their current level we will have to be active in fund-raising activities in years to come.
